"If" Jameis is as good as people are saying then he'll be the first overall pick. Not sure people are aware, but we ended up with the third overall pick with the worst talent and a new HC. Many times we were predicted to be the worst team of all time. Our arrow is pointing up as by nature it cannot get any worse, we will not be drafting Jameis "if" he lives up to the hype. So we take Teddy, Bortles, Manziel or wait for the chance to draft Mariota or Hundley. We could also take a flyer on some prospects such as Fales, but we need to address the position eventually as Ghenne is awful.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke. 

"Climbing up the boards" is a myth. The scouts that work for teams have been high on him all year. Its just the media who is catching up to them. This often happens with players who dont play in big conferences or are on TV a lot.

Yep, thats how I see it too. 

 

Plenty of people like Seminoles more too.  One needs to only read this forum regularly.  At least, they do now. Before this season, Seminole nation was pretty silent... now they act tough.

 

If FSU and Jacksonville were to play an exhibition game, many of these nole homers would root against us.  Sad but true.

By the same token, I think the Bull Gators can't bear the thought of seeing a Florida State Seminole as our new elite-level franchise quarterback. The Gator-infested media is pushing a quarterback a year early to prevent the possibility that Teal Town will draft Jameis Winston next year.

 

This passive aggressive behavior by the orange and blue is nothing new.

 

The Gator-infested media never accepts any responsibility each time they lead a cattle stampede. Derrick Harvey took Wayne Weaver for multi-millions and not a single member of the Gator-infested media has paid back a penny of the robbery they aided and abetted.

My stance on Bortles is:


I'm not hoping that Caldwell drafts him.  But if he does, I'll have faith in it being the right pick.  Normally I hate that sort of stance, especially when it's taken on everything.  Personally I'm not sure about Bortles.  I'm concerned that he'll be a bust.  But a professional GM taking him would alleviate my concerns enough to actually like him.  Manziel on the other hand, I don't think I can have faith on him if Caldwell selects him, but I will hope that he turns out better than I think he will.  

 

Really hope the Texans trade down with someone who wants Clowney really badly.  The Rams take Matthews, and leave Bridgewater for us.  And the Texans wind up drafting Manziel, and he winds up being as I think he will be.

i'm concerned he will be a dalton and end up in that qb limbo 

 

the qb terminology that gets bandied around is varied and means different things so for me there are 5 levels of qb

 

elite that is your manning brees rodgers brady... best in their possession no doubts about their talent, they make spectacular plays on a regular basis

 

franchise...thats your big bens, eli mannings,  andrew lucks they lead a franchise and elevate the players around them but don't quite have the wow factor

 

limbo.... dalton, bradfield's, locker's ... they have these moments that make you think yes you are the guy then these other ones that make you want to punch the tv in...limbo is a dwelling place until you get classed up or down

 

backups...henne... fitzpatrick... you had your chance you didn't blow or impress.... to the bench with ya

i think bortles has a very good chance to be a franchise qb and if caldwell drafted bortles in the middle of the first or start of the second i think we would all be happy its just with how high he will go.... with all the qb needy teams around he is going top 10 and the expectation that comes with that

 

To go at 3 the kid has to have a chance of being elite and I'm not sure if bortles has that in him... that being said an elite characteristic, his pocket presence and throwing through contact is elite

 

the ceiling and pro ready is also some more terminology and reckon it is scout jargon for i'm going to hedge my bets here 

 

i don't think bridgewater or bortles have high ceilings,

 

I think beyond nlf conditioning, a bit of tidying of their fundamentals and nfl experience in reading the game they are pretty close to where they can be technically as qbs... which to me means they are pro ready and have a better chance of being franchise qbs and impacting straight away in the nfl

 

manziel by contrast has a high ceiling because he is already very good in college but not remotely pro ready and thus it all relies on whether he can translate to the nfl... if it translates he will be a franchise qb and could be elite.... if it doesn't.... do you want an autograph with that?

I'd say there's a pretty steep gap between Bridgewater/Bortles/Manziel and McCarron.  I think AJ has fallen to round three after his latest bowl performance and the fact that he turned down the senior bowl.

Notice at :47 as he makes the TD pass he's falling away from the pass, to me that's a red flag. Then again at 1:20 he's throwing off his one foot, the other foot just swings out there in limbo land. I noticed at 1:50 I thought that's good footwork he's bouncing back and forth feet moving and then he goes into this baseball type pitch and launches the ball!?

 

Kid's got a rocket arm but I don't see the top pick value in him?

That's where tweaking his mechanics will come into play.  That's what coaches are paid to do. 

 

If he puts more effort in his foot placement, really stepping into a throw and using his stance to his advantage, then it will refine his accuracy and add velocity to his throws. 


It's not like we have a Tebow situation here when it comes to mechanics.  Tebow couldn't throw; Bortles can  Bortles can be a big time player in this league if he can clean up his stance a bit.

I'm not seeing rocket arm, but what I am seeing is a guy that keeps his eyes down the field when he gets flushed, which is an extremely important facet. It's what makes Aaron Rodgers great, it's what makes Russel Wilson great, it's what makes Andrew Luck great.

 

I'm not saying he'll be one of those guys, but that's a very desirable trait.
