Leftwich'a downfall was his slow release. Bortles has a quick release. It's really just footwork that needs tweaking.

I remember Leftwich dropping the ball LOW like I was seeing in that video, I'm not an expert or anything just saying we went down this road before of drafting a guy to fix him later.

I don't think Bortles needs much work and coaches are paid to help fix these issues.


It's gonna be a long wait if your looking for a qb that needs no work.

....and you are smart to feel that way. So many fans/ even coaches think that these players can be "fixed" once already at this level when they've been throwing the same way all their lives. Its much harder to accomplish than it sounds. Even if things "appear" fixed in a controlled practice, as soon as the player goes back out there on the field in real game action he is likely to revert back to what is natural to him upon facing adversity when instinct take over.

There are NO elite QBs in this draft. There are at least two quarterbacks with elite traits in college football next season.

I hope by next season, you are not referring to either Jameis, Hundley, or Mariota. Jameis will be unavailable and there's a reason why Hundley/Mariota are not coming out this season. Hint: They're not elite. And really I don't see those QBs actually making their team better, it's the other way around. Teddy and Manziel make their teams better and Bortles has been clutch

Phillip Rivers turned a strange delivery into a very good career.

 

Of course, for every Rivers, there are a dozen Leftwiches, Tebows and Carrs with a strange delivery that contributes to tanking their career. Not saying that you don't draft a guy purely because of his mechanics if everything else is solid, but spending a first-round pick on a guy with a windup or sidearm throwing style has to scare you a bit. Tebow actually reinforced that point. He spent the offseason before the draft learning to throw with a more conventional style to raise his stock, then as soon as the games started counting, he reverted to his natural delivery.

I think Rivers benefitted from sitting for two years. And then when he became starter he had Ladanian Tomlinson, Michael Turner, Darren Sproles, Vincent Jackson and Antonio Gates.

Call me crazy but i see this kid developing into a very good QB.  Is he going to step in right away and lead a to the playoffs no but I see him becoming a franchise type QB.  As where I see Teddy stepping in right away in day one and grabbing hold of a team.

Notice at :47 as he makes the TD pass he's falling away from the pass, to me that's a red flag. Then again at 1:20 he's throwing off his one foot, the other foot just swings out there in limbo land. I noticed at 1:50 I thought that's good footwork he's bouncing back and forth feet moving and then he goes into this baseball type pitch and launches the ball!?


Kid's got a rocket arm but I don't see the top pick value in him?

You realize you can get nitpick certain throws from elite qbs and find they do the same thing right? You think rodgers steps into every single pass he throws?
