Dareus to Jags

I think the Bills fan has lots of valid points.

He's a fairly volatile guy who doesn't always sing from the same hymn sheet and doesn't always put all of his effort in.

Given the makeup of this team and the coaching staff I have faith in them to do so but it might be hard with some of the previous bad feelings between Marrone and Dareus.

P.s keep him the [BLEEP] away from Fowler!

Definitely. This follows the Telvin Smith extension that allows us to not overpay him with the franchise tag.

Yup!  Buffalo ate the bonus.  For them though it freed up future cap space.

The Bills might be anticipating team salary caps to go down due to so many people boycotting the NFL.

I'm liking everything about this signing except for him having two strikes. The two strikes make him a risky signing unless you know you could keep his head straight.

Only a 6th for a big body that was a 2 time pro bowler, i'll take it

Hope he helps the run defense

Kudos to the Jaguars brass for making this move. The run defense should be much improved. I have to believe Dareus will be very happy playing for Marrone again on what should be the most dominant defense in the NFL. It's very unlikely a 6th rounder would make the team next year so the only issue is what it does to the salary cap moving forward. At some point, it will be impossible to pay all the studs on this defense what they can earn in free agency. For now, however, this defense will be even more fun to watch. It probably gives them the edge over the Titans to win the AFC South and host a playoff game this year. As we learned in 1996, once a team gets really hot at the right time anything can happen.

I love the trade for Dareus, especially since we had the extra 6th rounder from the Bowanko trade.  I'd trade the Bowankos of the world for Dareus all day long.

Looking deeper at this trade, it tells me that management believes that we can win NOW with Blake as our QB.  It screams to me that Blake will be our quarterback next season, and personally I'm okay with that.  I think it's  pretty obvious now to everyone that we've had incredibly incompetent coaching the last 4years.  This is Blake's 1st year with competent coaching, and he already looks better, and is much improved in the decision making department.  Blake will only continue to improve under this coaching staff. This move just tells me that we'll move forward with Blake. So to all the doubters, don't say I didn't tell you so when it happens.

I went to the tacks board to see what they thought. Here are some good ones:

"That's BS. What is this the NBA?"

"[BLEEP] Ridiculous"

"Lol"

"Coughlin is the best thing that could have happened to the Jags, they are an entirely new team. It's like we are playing against him all over again"

The only reason to do it is fix our run defense. Abry Jones is the main culprit of our #30 run defense ranking.

From what I'm reading in the comments section of the Buffalo News Sports section, he's a punk [BLEEP] pot smoker who started mailing it in when he got his new contract. I hope that was due to the team environment and not because of a persistent character flaw. Granted, we got him cheap, but this team has good chemistry right now. A veteran distraction in the locker room is not what we need. Marrone better lay down the law, which I'm sure he will.

Wow, actually if anything picking up this massive contract to me says there's no way they keep Bortles now. *shrug*

I'm really not worried about it. TC wouldn't allow a trade for someone that we thought could be a character issue.

He'll be relatively cheap this year. Next year, he'll be expensive (and part of his money is guaranteed, as the Jags due take on his guaranties). He could be a huge asset, if he gets motivated and stays clean.

Hopefully it knocks him into the right frame of mind.
I think as Bills fans, we were kinda surprised he didn't flourish going back to the 4-3 this year as he was a force before rex screwed things up putting square peg in round holes.
The money still owed Dareus (his $16.1 million salary for 2017 is fully guaranteed as is $7.35 million in 2018, $8.335 million in 2019 salary, $12.35 million in 2020, and $12.4 million in 2021) was why they decided cutting bait now was actually worth it.
I can't seem to find much about it now, but if I recall Doug and marcell weren't exactly best buds but that said I've gotta believe the Jags don't do this if there were any foreseen issues.

It is not exactly like the "NBA" Texans/Browns trade if that is what fans are thinking of.

You inspired me to  look for a Colts board thread about it. I already had an account with the same username.

I don't think they even know yet if they will keep Bortles. He still has 9 games to prove his self

All of this aside, the guy has dealt with some serious tragedy and some have felt he has simply been dealing with his demons .
If you aren't aware, here's a great summary explain all he's had to deal with...

Too much Bama in him

Wait - Am I seriously dreaming? From left to right we have Calais Campbell / Malik Jackson / Marcell Darius / Yannick Ngakoue and Dante Fowler? Good god... can even the Cowboys stop this beast mode lineup?
