For comparison Sheldon Richardson was traded for a 1st round pick. Last year Dareus played less games and had better sack numbers than Richardson so there’s that.

I'm not sure you understand the $$ aspect of it...or just didn't explain what you meant right..
The Bills are paying his signing bonus and are saving cap room bc of it.
Also, he has no reason at the moment to restructure. He's pretty well set as ppreviously mentioned in the breakdown 2 posts back. 
That said, I can't pretend to know what he or your gm is thinking so speculation is pointless.
I just think assuming he restructures isn't a given...
Richardson, to me, is totally different. He is a choir boy compared to marcel. He's 1 step closer to being compared to Josh Gordon than SR

After reading some of this I thought I'd drop a Buff POV.
I totally get being jacked at getting a new player.
Far be it from me to rain on your parade.
However, it's kinda funny to see both message boards so happy.
Dude was a cancer, which is a shame bc Mr big stuff could be very very good. Sadly, he got paid and checked out. After that, it snowballed and he couldn't do ANYTHING right.
Need a bone head play at a big moment? Dareus is your guy.
That moment when you need a big play from your stud? Dareus is NOT that guy. Between his dumb suspensions (drag racing in a busy area down the street from the stadium, smoking fake pot, injury after injury from not being in shape etc) and his antics apparently the Bills couldn't WAIT to let him go. Add in he was healthy and only playing 22% of snaps vs Denver and it was just a big, fat, waste on the cap.
I hope he turns around. Maybe being a role player rather than 'The Guy' will be a good thing. He was reduced to a roll player most of this year and still only had 8 tackles and 1 sack.
His ability to come down with a new injury or reason not to play was uncanny and getting embarrassing.
He has been the epitome of wasted talent.
I've read a few things that concern me.
To those thinking he's just a mentor short of putting it together...
He had one of the games most respected vet players basically babysitting him in Kyle Williams.
Hes essentially the opposite of Dareus and the leader of the team. Dude does EVERYTHING right and is a class act. He took him under his wing almost acting like a father figure and it got to the point where he would make excuses for #99... until it wore thin on him too
Dareus had everything you could hope for in Williams but he didn't care even when it made KW look silly.
The other thing that pains me to read are the comments like 'eh, it's only eating up cap space'...
That's the most valuable asset to a team. I don't understand how that can just be dismissed.
That's $$ (and a lot of it) that can't be used for other resources.
And even still, dude was getting paid bank essentially NOT to play for the Bills.
The fact that ANYTHING was paid, let alone a conditional 6th to a 5th is nothing short of amazing with a contract so backasswords and crazy.
It was the worst kept secret he would eventually be cut bc no one thought they'd pay anything....anything at all.
I'm sure the Bills made the rounds as it's been rumored for a while and this was the best they could get OR the only team who was actually WILLING to take the contract ON let along give compensation.
I get being excited and if roles were reversed I'd prob let my excitement get the best of me.
But for those saying he will fit in as a role player.... that's a TON for a role player.
Once the smoke clears, I'd realize that although the potential is there - it's a VERY expensive gamble
One that could very easily land you folks in the same trouble the Bills were in but this time there won't be a team willing to take the gamble in the same way of taking on the contract....
I wish him luck,  I do... but proceed with caution. When/if things go south he can be a real embarrassment and apparently be a bit selfish.
Buffalo seems to have a good thing going in that the team is all on the same page and working as one. The fact that he was unwilling to buy into that is just odd....

Dareus doesn't exactly need to be "that guy" in Sacksonville like he was expected to be in Buffalo. He merely needs to outplay Abry Jones as a starter, and that's really not asking too much. Taking over his base salaries is a little pricey, but it's really no more than your typical starting DT in this league. If we're keeping him beyond 2019, it will be with a renegotiated contract.

Lol, the same people were complaining and up in arms that he wasn't cut yet after sitting out practice 2 weeks ago. That particular forum has many knowledable posters but the Bills.com forum closed early 2017 and took on a bunch of less knowledgeable fans who sometimes are kinda embarrassing tbh.
It's more they can't come to grips that they missed on a #3 overall pick. They don't get other factors contribute to a player depreciating. Just bc a player was taken 3rd doesn't mean that player remains 3rd overall valuewise throughout their entire career. Thus, they complain.
Same fans who would complain about the Bills breaking their playoff drought bc it gives them worse draft status.
Also, poster was dead on. It's 100% motovation, rather than gas left in the tank. 
Fwiw, those same remarks about atmosphere are culture are the exact same things that are being said around Buffalo and like you guys seem to be- everyone is on board.
He was sent home before a preseason game this year bc he decided he didn't want to ride the team bus and got to the stadium when his teammates were already on the field. Marrone and Rex woulda let that slide. McD and co won't and got sick of it

Who knows? You might be right. The move, after all, was a gamble.

It's a swing for the fence with the Playoffs on the line.

It's just, given how things are going with the Jaguars and their defense, most of us feel it's a gamble that will pay off. The hope is it puts our DL over the top this year while helping them to keep teams like the Titans and Jets from gashing us right up the middle.

Maybe it's semantics, but almost 10m and 9m respectively is top 3rd of the leave for DT (not accounting for bills paying bonus) which is nothing to sneeze at and at the very least qualifies as an expensive gamble. 
Again, I'm not sure why or what motivation he'd have to renegotiate. Like I said, it's not worth a debate bc I can't pretend to know what your gm would do and arm chair gming is fun but noting can be gained bc we can't predict the future. 
Other articles from jags media seems to have turned from celebratory to defensive/rationalization. 
Meanwhile embarrassingly, some Bills fans are still moaning they didn't get a 2nd for him....
Hard to believe these ppeople THINK things like this let alone commit their thoughts to the interwebs.

Good or bad, Dareus had little to zero to do with it.
Only time his name was called was for jumping offside after a timeout to prepare for a huge 3 and 10 last week. That bone headed ill timed penalty turned it into an easy 3rd and 5 and eventually led to a score that could have cost the game.
He very well could return to form.
But this isn't the Dareus of 2014.
If he was at all contributing the Bills would have just dealt with overpaying and lived with it.
It was the becoming invisible, bone head moves, new injury to sit out every week, fake pot, drag racing, showing up late, not showing up etc. He was setting a bad example for the young guys and wasn't falling inline. Which is why TO THEM it was worth it to have him gone via trade or cut... bc it was addition by subtraction. At one point their beat reporter actually had to contend there was something in the CBS that stated they couldn't just pay him to stay home. Sadly, it got that bad.

Hes been rotating (like 22% of snaps a couple weeks ago) with a bunch of guys that have been stout, but none the less his backups  in years past.
We are lucky we didn't have to GIVE a late pick as well.

The Bills and Jags are quite similar actually.
Both seasons thus far have a similar trajectory.
The Bills are a bit more of a surprise, but are also fighting for the playoffs.
Both teams have new regimes that are setting standards and building a culture.
Here's to hoping he becomes an asset and not a hindrance as he had become here.
He could become the crown jewel in a already very good DL.

Sorry friend. I think you are not understanding the money portion of it. If he stayed on your team he is due a complete 16 mil by your team. By trading him you guys still pay the guaranteed money for this year and we inherited about 6 million on our cap this year. Next season you guys pay the remaining guaranteed money and on our end we pay 10 mil. After that it is practically zero cap hit if we cut him in 2019 maybe 6 mil if we cut him in 2018. After that the contract is just a 3 more 1 year deals. If he’s not performing he’s released no harm. It’s low cost high reward for us. 

All that stuff about y’all don’t have his contract after 2018 is just talk to make it sound like they did something. That is true for us as well. We won’t have to pay him after 2018 either if we choose not too. 

The larger question is why did you guy pay him $100 million and change the defense the same year?

Wow, just woke up and found the news.

If he'll be motivated enough he's a big upgrade over Abry Jones and a big help at stopping the run. And I think Malik Jackson (which is still on the injury report) isn't in the best shape at the moment, hopefully the bye week helped.
