Dareus to Jags

We actually are at the point where we need to start worrying about the cap. We have negative cap room already allocated for 2018. It's going to take a lot of creativity to improve the team going forward.

Side note: does this have anything to do with Malik? Heard he’s been playing injured all season.

Dareus is more of a nose tackle. All the same, holy crap. One of the best defensive tackles in the game for a six.

Guys, we need Blake to not play like crap. Mediocre works. The Ravens won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer. If Bortles can consistently attain Trent Dilfer levels of mediocrity, we've got a playoff run coming to us.

We had like $40 or $50 mil for 2018 even with Blake's option in there
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

I linked this in the UFA thread but it probably deserves a link here too.

My question is, who gets cut to make room?

There are 10 kinds of people in this world.  Those who understand binary and those who don't.

We're at the cap, but that's at this year's cap and assuming it doesn't go up another $10 million again. We also will have nearly $40 million in rollover cap if we wish to use it. And we could also easily clear another $30 million in contracts. The cap is getting tight, but we're not as up against it as it appears at first glance.

Who you cutting to free up 30M?

Bouye contract alone increases by 10M next year.
Bortles increases by 13M if kept...

The cap will go up by about the same amount as our rookie draft pool will so that's offset. We can cut guys like Poz, Ivory, Marcedes, and maybe even Parnell and save ~$20 mil then we have to figure out what to do with Arob, Lee, and Colvin. They will obviously take much more than that to keep so we're definitely going to lose some of them if not all 3. And then we have to figure out what to do at QB, TE, WR, SLB, and at least one starting caliber OG/RT...it's going to take some creativity like I said.

Bortles and Malik
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Bortles, Hurns, and Ivory would be more than $33 million in savings with no dead money.

Sign ARob for around 10-12 per year right now, let Lee walk, offer Colvin a mid tier cb contract, something like 5-6 per year over four seasons, and offer Bortles a backup/proveit contract heading into next year with his alternative being getting cut, something like 5 million a year for 3 years with incentives for a lot more if he does something like throwing 30 TDs with 10 or less ints. That way the team can keep or cut him based on his performance or have him even be a backup for a few seasons of a worthwhile QB falls to us or comes open in free agency. Assuming Bortles doesn't come on strong to end this season, that is. If he does that they'll have to probably pay him.

The Arob move is important if they can make it happen. With ARob this year's team would probably be undefeated. There's no way they lose three games with teams stacking the box and ARob going deep. Either teams could let Fournette kill them slow or ARob kill them fast, but the Jaguars would be killing teams with ARob healthy.

I broke it down a couple times in the past couple pages and posted links to exactly what the $$. No need for the 'something like that' estimations.
It's right there for all to see lol.
Regardless, I think it's just as simple as the old saying 'if it's too good to be true, it probably is'.
Again, maybe he turns it around - I sincerely hope he does.
But this wasn't an exclusive deal to the Jags.
The Bills have been trying to trade him rather than just cut him since he got sent home.
Anyone could have had him for a bag of football's.
We are lucky we didn't have to pay someone picks to take him.
Like I mentioned obviously saint Doug was ok with this or it doesn't get made but when he left BUF, Dareus was the 1st one blasting him in the media for all the bridges he burned here etc.
Again, I don't mean to be all doom and gloom.
Getting a new weapon is fun.
I just hope he turns into that weapon. The jags must have seen something none of the other teams did bc anyone actually WILLING to give anything could have had him.
Seems TC helped get this team in trouble in 1999 with $$. Hopefully this won't hurt if he remains who he's been for 3+ years.
It was a TERRIBLE contract that never should have been given out.
Buffalo just had a complex about keeping their own at that time and he made it clear he wasn't signing for anything less bc he's selfish. Another reason a restructure shouldn't just be assumed

Ivory saves 4 Million....7M cap hit with 3M in dead cap next year.
Hurns saves 7 Million but are you going to let Hurns/Lee/Arob all walk?  Cause any of them would cost more than 7M a year.
Bortles saves 7Million as thats all he is getting paid this year....his 19M isn't against the cap yet.

So those 3 save...18M for next year.

Bouye cap hit increase by 10M
Campbell cap hit increase by 6 M
Dareus cap hit increases by 5M

All of this is calculated in the 2018 allotment table I linked, and so is Bortles' 5th year option. We can pretty much keep the team as is, but filling any of our needs or trying to fix QB will take some work.
