He also wrote a clause in the contract that he could opt out at anytime and still make all his money. What is it with you guys paying for players and coaches and go aren’t even there anymore. So nice try distorting the facts again. Bro y’all traded an all pro DT for a sixth rounder. For reference the Jets got a second and a wr for Sheldon Richardson who is on the last year of his contract and has less sacks than Dareus had in less games last season. How’s that for intelligent informed thoughts for you lol.

Don’t comes to a jags board spreading “knowledge” or “cautionary tales” of how y’all couldn’t get an all pro player to produce after y’all changed the defense and his role in said defense and now wonder why he isn’t productive anymore. That’s football 101. That’s literally like putting JJ Watt at nose tackle and wondering why he can get 20 sacks again. Y’all screwed up. That’s all it is. Y’all mismanaged a high end player and couldn’t get max minimum value for him. Oh and by the way, y’all are still paying 10 million this year for him and 14 million for him next year? Y’all are carrying 24 million of dead cap over 2 years for a player not even on your roster and only got a 6th out of it.

Yep sounds like a good ole fleecing to me lol. Now you can try and refute any point that was brought up with out dodging any point, resorting to name calling and shallow digs. Otherwise you look like the blind homer looking to “educate” the silly southern hicks. I guess the city slicker is all knowing. We clearly don’t know football. Der wees justa one horse town...

Good God man... you and your 'facts'...
What ACTUALLY happened, is the team was sold. He had an uncertain future.
This wasn't a surprise, and a lot of people didn't know what would happen. It was more an escape clause incase the team moved.
His agent decided to pull a fast one used this clause to make his client more $$. He could get outand get paid, BUT he also had bad info in that the Jets REALLY wanted him and if he opted out he would be a shoe in for the Jets job. He opted out for his $$ and then had a poor interview.
Woody started talking to people in the Bills organization and realized if all these people had such terrible things to say about him AS WELL AS he was that willing to jump ship... maybe he should steer clear.
Thus, he overplayed his hand and ended up as an ast in JAX.
Qb situation is totally different and he didn't want ej...but Whaley did. They got Orton as insurance and ej was benched after a few games. Nothing to do w him leaving etc.
So, although I appreciate your revisionist history,  stick with revising your teams and heed my previous advice.
If you want a good laugh, Google why he's called saint doug!!
It'll also be good practice so going forward you can fact check your nonsense so you don't look so silly when you write this crap in public for all to see.
That explains all his issues here. Hopefully if mellowed him out a bit and he learned from his mistakes.

I see you completely failed to speak on the comparison trade of Sheldon Richardson on the last year of his deal for a second and a wr, not getting maximum value, changing the scheme and still footing the bill through next year...

Here are some articles discussing my point as to why Doug left:

"While it’s been reported that Doug Marrone opted out of his contract with the Buffalo Bills due to his objection to the trade the club made for wide receiver Sammy Watkins, in all likelihood it has more to do with his lack of faith in quarterback EJ Manuel."

https://fansided.com/2015/01/08/doug-mar...ej-manuel/

"Last year, it took Doug Marrone four games to realize that EJ Manuel was not a quality NFL starter. There was some backlash at Buffalo's former head coach but behind Kyle Orton and a stout defense, the Buffalo Bills finished with a winning record for the first time since 2004."

https://247sports.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/...-109702209

"Marrone spoke to the Los Angeles media Wednesday ahead of the Jaguars’ Week 6 clash with the Rams and said that he wasn’t thrilled with Buffalo’s choice to draft Watkins.

“It wasn’t the player for me,” Marrone said on a conference call with L.A. media. “

http://billswire.usatoday.com/2017/10/11/doug-marrone-sammy-watkins-bills-rams-jaguars/

It appears it was either due to the ridiculous trade for Watkins but most likely he left because he was not solid on EJ Manuel. He had a clause in his contract to leave and when he didn't like the direction of the team, he left.

The Jets stuff may have been a contributing factor but it appears the reason he left was the poor decision by the front office to draft either one of these players or possibly both.

As you were saying...

I figured as long was we are just making stuff up....
Bullseye, if we were in a bar talking I'd actually agree with part of what you are saying. But again... those players you compare this to were from a different era, didn't have the issues md does, obided by different rules and are just not at all the same thing. Same with trading Sheldon Richardson...apples to bananas.
Here's the thing...
I realize it'd be totally absurd to come on to a JAX board and start spouting about jax history like I have any sort of clue besides what I read. In your arguments, it's obvious you are just finding articles and posting like you actually have some sort of idea. I can't speak to had 2014 because I didn't live it.
I'm not willing to embarrass myself and pretend to.
I get you feel the need to defend your current coach.
There are a LOT of things you can blame on the Bills.
Marrone isn't one if em. Dude got selfish looking out for #1 and it cost him.
Nationally it prob didn't come off looking very good, but it was the best thing for the team...and that's keeping in mind what came next with Rex
Doug was concerned about Doug.
Not a dude I want in charge of my team.
Maybe he's changed. I hope he has. I won't pretend to know how he's done bc you may have a different view or opinion that isn't what's written nationally.
I've REALLY tried not to take a biased or homer approach to this.
I didn't come here and start laughing about selling out home games or something bc I have no idea what the deal is.
There are insulting jokes we can sling back and forth about both franchises, but that's kinda dumb too. Neither of us have anything recently except this year to be proud of.
I left things alone and thanked the board for their hospitality.
I come back to just see if there's any new news regarding this and it turns out I'm some salty butt hurt Bills fan....
I haven't been outwardly vulgar or personally/team insulting.
If I downed anyone it was MD, but I always made sure to say I hope he turns it around or figures it out...
I hope you guys don't jump over any poster who isnt a jags fan. That'd be a shame, bc they aren't all jerks or trolls. You can really get some helpful perspective that lets you enjoy the weeks upcoming game when speaking to fans of other teams.
Anywho, to those who didn't, again thank you. I've enjoyed the talk.

Lol, because of arguing every point I continued (believe it or not) to try and find a common ground?

Here's the thing. I knew this from the get - which is why I tried keeping everything from a Bills point of view going back to my initial posts 10 pages ago...
The other side of the coin is no fun.
When we hired Rex, everyone (including myself) was excited.
He was gonna fight for the everyman and said all the right things.
Hook, line, and sinker.
By nature this league is full of retreads and your only as good as your last accomplishment due to the what have you done for me lately attitude of the league.
Jets fans warned Bills fans that the antics get old and after a while he's left with his **** in his hand looking like a fool.
It's human nature to get excited about your team as you naturally get excited and jazzed about new exciting things.
I didn't wanna heed some jets fans warning.
I didn't care what he did in N.Y. bc this is now.
That said, I totally got where jets fan is coming from and although more often than not history repeats itself jets fan can only speak to what happened with the Jets.
Maybe the disappointment wouldn't have stung so muchhad I have listened- but that was then and Rex was here now.
Fresh start.
Point being, everything jets fan said happened.
Now, there was no way to know from the get. Things started out promising and didn't really get BAD until yr #2.
All those things jets fan said would happen did.
I couldn't get mad or salty with jets fan bc even though this is my coach, he had just lived it and all those things happened in N.Y..
Jets fan wasn't salty we had their old coach.
Just explaining what went south then, and the spin was what actually went down. Not what I would read on espn, si, or whatever national outlet.
Same situation but vice versa with the Fitz meltdown.
They thought they had the second coming that 1st yr with him.
The 2nd yr, he went right back to same ol Fitz and the warnings from bills fans to jets fans became true.

I can't argue with jets fan why rex didn't work in ny.
Nationally, his shtick wore thin and he was hung out to dry...
There was a lot more going down behind the scenes..

In the end, like I said I was just giving a rundown of what happened in BUF bc people didn't know.
At 1st w/md and later w Doug.
Some posters here took issue like I was insulting their guys when truth be told - I can't tell the future... so I can only speak to the past. There's no reason someone should get on my case because I dare to speak as to what happened when someone was here.
It was almost like a couple posters refused to acknowledge their new toy COULD be flawed. That's not an insult, but yet I got back this Buff has bad coaches, screw things up crap.... I didn't get the holier than thou thing. As mentioned earlier, neither franchise is cream if the crop so why act all big headed about it to me? Just seemed like picking a fight. For what? Bc someone told you how it was IN BUFFALO? People were asking why he was traded. I gave an answer. And boom, now people start jumping on the Bills and aimed it at me.
It came off as overly defensive (and in turn turned offensive).
I think marrone would have been different here if he had a bit smaller headand try to run the whole show. He didn't let the gm do his thing and didn't stick to what he was hired to do - coach.
You guys have TC, who seems like he wouldn't deal with the ego and in turn I'd guess wouldn't have gone alone w him if he didn't know his place. I'd also guess that his fall from grace knocked him down a peg.... but again, I'm not down there so you'd know better than I.
That's the only thing I personally took issue with.
Don't tell me how things were with my team. You can think you know what went down and naturally it'll get spun a way that makes you happy. Whatever ya gotta tell yourself type thing.
That doesn't actually mean that's how it went down.
This fleece talk bugged me as well.
With marrone, DM was late 25- 30x before he was suspended for a qtr. The very next Monday after the game he was late again!
Anyone could have had the guy. Any team at all. Jags decided to go big or go home. Good for them, it could really pay off.
They just happened to be the team who stood up and took a chance....so I'm not sure how that's fleecing someone.
Which...kinda brings everything full circle.

So, the Bills have this supposed malcontent, who has proven all pro talent, and who is entering the prime of his career at 27, and they hire a new coach and a new general manager, and seven games into the season, they decide they are not capable of turning around his attitude, and so they trade him away for next to nothing. And leaving themselves on the hook for a bunch of salary to boot.

I don't care if they're 5-2. It still looks like they failed and bailed. I would not be happy about it if I was a Bills fan. That's a lot of talent to just throw away like that.

The only way I can explain it is, pure ego. "We don't need to make any effort to turn this guy around, because we can get our own guys. anyone who is not on board is overboard! To heck with untapped potential! I didn't draft him, so no one can blame me when I discard him!"

It seem like the very first job of a new head coach would be to maximize the talent he has been handed. That didn't happen in this case.

Buy high, sell low. And then celebrate because you sold an underperforming asset. Yippee.
