Dareus to Jags

While Hackett has some head scratching play calls generally I think he's done a pretty good job.

Our opening 15/20 play opening script is usually on the money which speaks to how well prepared the offense is. He has some creative play calls up his sleeve too. Using Marcedes Lewis on tiny corners and safeties is such a small adjustment that we've ignored the last few years but has had good effect.

Agreed.

Getting Hurns in the slot against LBs in zone coverage a few times has been pretty slick too.

He's also gotten Blake to start making better checks at the LOS depending on coverage he sees.

Its a relatively basic scheme but effective which is more important. Good shout on Hurns, saw yesterday he was like 8th or something in 3rd down catchs for a 1st.

I'd add in more rollouts for Blake and run him more in general but i get the concern for doing that too much.

I agree on the runs. I'd like to see Blake keep it on those read options two or three times a game, just to keep the D on their toes. But that would be on Blake wouldn't it?

Yep.

His decision making could be the nail in our coffin or our ticket to the post-season from here on out this year. Because I feel pretty confident we can count on this defense to hold it down pretty consistently.  We're entering that old "go as far as the QB takes you" territory.

Scary proposition.

He seems to only do it when we're chasing a game.
Even if he did it a few times like you said that could be enough to slow down a linebacker and spring Fournette free.

BTW, I have a bad feeling we'll see bad Blake this year but think we'll win out anyway.

That said, they were due. Short week, long on injuries, and for the 1st time all year ALL the bounces went the other way. Maybe that early dropped INT would have changed the momentum.
Did they miss Darues? No idea. If he was on the roster he probably wouldnt have been out there anyway, or 20-30% of snaps which isnt enough to make much of a difference unless of course he does... but frankly that just hadn't been happening. Their run D lives and dies by whats been out there for the majority and MD just wasnt a part of that.
They just need to own the loss and come back. Benji hopefully at the very least changes the way the box is stacked and if it dosent then they need to take advantage. Last night was WEIRD. Matthews caused himself to fumble, Oleary was a second away to just tossing a live ball to a ref, refs were too involved in calling ticky tack stuff both ways and not calling egregious maulings, onside kick recovered but offsides (but not really) and then another recovery after the penalty. Josh Freakin McCown rushing for TDs . Games like this happen...ESPECIALLY in the NFL. I feel like its more about how they respond than what happened last night.
Marcel was at the very least probably happy he got to get out of Dodge before that happened  though.
I'm glad I didnt end up making the trip, thats for sure!!

Bills suck. Go jags.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Yeah, I watched that last night, he does have some personality.

When Dareus was interviewed after the 1st practice, he seemed shocked that he was suddenly in Jacksonville, and, although directly did not say anything negative, he did not appear joyous that he was now a Jag. During last night's All Access show with Calais, what a change. You could see the joy in his demeanor and his quick bond with Calais. He genuinely now appears to like playing in Duval. Great to see, and hope it continues to show in his play performance.

Seems pretty bought in.

Good personality too. Hope this change was just what he needed. Sure seems that way at this point.

Dareus certainly seems to have bought in and acclimated. Such a difference in personality from his first interview to the one in All Access. Good to see.

Are you under the impression that we care about what happened last night?

FWIW, I like hearing from intelligent fans from other teams. I may be alone on this.

This team is honestly turning into something special before our eyes. We all deserve it, and we should all hope it lasts for awhile because this young group of talent absolutely breathes in each other and plays off each other. Amazing.

I'm with you.

For me, that's the result of my buddy.  Were he not so obnoxious, predictable and ridiculously homerish in his stream of consciousness rants, I would otherwise have no reason to hate the Bills.

Glad I could be of some service!
Guess what?!?! I'm wearing a Jags hoodie today!!!
Just for clarity... homerish cant be called homerish when given from an unbiased but one sided perspective.
Informative from a different perspective? yes. Homerish, no.
I'm not going to be around here to get you all straightened out forever. Eventually, you'll need to figure this stuff out on your ownSmile
With all due respect, the majority of the responses here directed AT me sounded like this season is already over, records were broken, and something was actually won.
Infact, any time I spoke of my team I was incredibly humble and was sure to keep in mind we are half way through a season and I'm on a Jags forum - not a Bills.
You guys SHOULD be in for a treat as it looks like you are in for a cake walk the rest of the way. You even got a break only having to face Watson for 1 or potentially 4 halves this year. If MD helps make the run D more stout and things keep up and dont fall apart (which again, given the path ahead seems very unlikey) It could be a great year.
Dont mistake my explanation as to why your new play thing ended up in JAX as obnoxious or homerish- and if it was so predictable it wouldnt have needed to be explained.

I mean it Bullseye, I'll give ya a couple more freebies, but eventually the training wheels are going to come off and your going to have to start making well informed and thoughout posts all on your own.... Banana

I am a little flattered to have made such an impression on you though!!!

This is good news.
Ultimately, I think this will be something that needs to be revisited at this point next season.
Hopefully he saw Fournette being made an example and realizes it looks silly and that doesn't need to be him any longer.
Every good week is progress IMO. FWIW, he seemed to have his issues with us during the off season. There were in season blips with being late to meetings and such, but the big mistakes were not during the season.
I DONT at all mean this as a downer, but the real test (and when I'll be sold he figured it out) is after he plays this year and contributes.
Then, after the honeymoon period wears off and he has a uneventful and productive offseason and this time next year you guys are saying what a bargin his salary is. Its off to a good start!!!!

That was my question during this dissertation. Don't the Bills have a forum?

They do... but you guys roped me in and I became sold. Hook, line, and sinker.
Its what happens when folks are so endearing. Any lets not pretend like I'm spamming your entire forum here. 1 thread in a whole board of threads isnt that much...
I came here bc you folks seemed like you needed a but of intel.
I stayed bc if the engaging conversation.
You have no idea what its like to deal with so many uninformed people who were whining and crying about MD.
Those idiots are STILL crying about how handy he would have been... and maybe he would of... but the point is he wasnt playing and they dont even realize it. You guys seem like a smart bunch, who enjoy football, and know/understand the game more so than other fan bases. Ignorance DRIVES ME NUTS and when the trade went down Bills boards were chalk full of it. You guys seemed like a nice enough bunch and have you ever heard someone say "Those Jags fans, they are such Jagoffs"?? Nope!
So Mr Cleatwood, I'm sorry your board got spammed (even though I moved this shortly after posting when I realized there was a 'league' category but it was quoted and now lives in infamy) but it actually DID relate to MD... from a certain point of view.

I'm glad you want to spend your time here. Go for it.

I just don't care about the Bills. If they lose, that's great for the Jags. If they win, don't care. I also don't need to hear any more about Dareus. You have no new information on him. You're saying the same things over and over again. "FWIW...... Again... I hope he does well..."

If you have things to say about the Jags then by all means, post away. If you want to post about a meaningless Bills game, post in the League forum.

YOU are the Mod no?
Bullseye can pull my chain, but when I yank his back I'm considered unintelligent?
Lets also just clarify, theres no hate involved here. I could have taken his statement many ways - the easiest would have been derogatory.
Instead I took it as good natured and responded accordingly. I will say, I like a mod whjo isnt afraid to stir things up and mix it up a bit!
