Manziel to formally declare

#61

Assuming Teddy is taken in the first 2 picks, I couldn't tell you who I really want most. I would really love to get Manziel. He has special written all over him. I also would love it if we picked Clowney. He would make the whole defensive unit better. The line.....the corners. I'm also warming up to Bortles. I think he has a lot of upside. Love the agility that goes with his size. And I would really like to see us get Watkins. He would be a huge weapon on a virtually weaponless team. He would make the offense better by stretching the field and opening up things across the middle. If Blackmon comes back......it would be a helluva 1 2 punch. They were talking about it on the radio last night. Heck, if they picked ANY of those guys, I'd get excited.

Most people assume that Manziel is going to be scrambling around in the NFL look he did in college. Better believe that whatever team drafts him will be in his ear every time he scrambles. RG3 is fresh on everyone's mind. I have faith in our organization that if he is drafted our playbook won't look like the Redskins' in '12

I really hope the Texans decide to take Manziel.  That'd be great, especially if he's the Bust instead of the boom.

Manziel just doesn't look like he has what it takes to be a pocket passer in this league.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Um, if your plan is to essentially neuter Manziel's game once he gets into the pro's then what is the point of drafting him?

The way I see it, you either believe that Manziel can be the kind of playmaker in the pro's that he was in college, or you don't. And you either select him or pass on him based on that mindset.

If you try to change his game or take the aggressiveness out of him, you are likely to have a ruined pick on your hands.

Quote:The Texans will suffer if they don't get a good QB. If they get any one of Mallett, Bridge, Bortles or Manziel then thats bad news for us. There are levels of better for us, if say the Texans take Bortles at 1, instead of trading down from 1, getting a windfall of picks, and then STILL getting Bortles, for example.

Didn't you insinuate Bortles was similar to Gabbert in that he's raw and not ready for the NFL?  Now all of a sudden, we're in trouble if the Texans draft him?

No, he's going to be good regardless. I've been touting Mallett ever since that draft. I wanted the Jags to draft him that draft.

Good article from Michael DiRocco about Manziel's potential fit with the Jaguars. Here's a couple blurbs from it about what Fisch likes his QBs to do in the NFL. If that's truly what he wants his QB to play like, it's hard to imagine him not liking Johnny Football.

"I get excited when they [quarterbacks] scramble," he said. "I think guys need to scramble. I think quarterbacks need to get first downs with their legs as well as their arms. I encourage scrambling."

"I encourage throwing it up and trying to get pass interferences and I encourage scrambling because I think both of those things happen in the NFL. Take a chance. When you have a chance to launch one, launch one. When you have a chance to run, run, because yards are hard to come by."

Yards aren't hard to come by.  Or at least they shouldn't be.

Keep "juice" in the pocket and he's lost.
If that RV sales place wants Tebow in Jax bad enough to take out a billboard saying as much.....they should just HIRE him.

What TMD said is right, if you try to wrangle him and take away what makes Manziel 'JFF'...then you might as well take one of the other guys that is the bigger, safer, more prototypical NFL QB prospect.

This is the first I've heard of this possibility. Please tell me more.

Well, considering that you concluded your post about a potential trade for Mallett with the idea that "he is going to be good," it's really not that far a stretch of an interpretation at all.

So, I take it that you would also be satisfied if the Jags picked up any one of Mallett, Teddy, Bortles or Manziel, then?

On Wisconsin.

See....every good football idea I have, other good coaches have it too.

I knew Mallett is going to be good.

A coach wants to work with a young backup that he previously worked with.....shocking!!

I must say I do like this part of the quote by Fisch.

Credit where due.

Then he goes on to ruin it by saying "yards are hard to come by"....sigh, They shouldn't be. Not when you take what the defense is giving you....and the defense is always giving something away.

Theres always an excuse for the division rivals getting all the best players/ assistants huh.

Well I guess we should have hired a coach with better ties, then huh?

You don't know how good they are yet. Texans already have a lot of pieces in place. I'm willing to bet they would be better than us next year with any new HC and QB

I am thinking that Manziel could be to them what Tebow was to us. Being the "local" star who has become legend. There may be a lot of pressure to draft him. Similar to the pressure that was being put on us a few years ago. So maybe they buckle and take him. Just a thought.

Vince Young came out the year the Texans took Mario Williams. Texans will go BPA.

If we take Manziel, I would not be disappointed at all. I think he's the most comparable to Russell Wilson... I think Manziel has a higher ceiling than Wilson. He has elite instincts/unmeasurables/statistics. Other than his size, any weakness he has can be coached up.

Bridgewater in the 1st or Manziel in the 2nd on draft day...i'd be alright with this. Do u take Manziel that high in the first? Can't say I'd be too upset, we need the "it" guy, he hasn't been around since Leftwich/Garrard.
