ESPN: Johnny Manziel a good fit for Jaguars..
|
I feel like we should draft a QB in the first three rounds every year moving forward until we actually find one worth putting on the field.
Only a chump boos the home team!

Quote:Carr over Manziel???Carr has one worry to me, and while it's a legit worry it is being overblown because of one bad game. I trust the body of work I have scouted in over a dozen games. He also has the highest pure upside in the class. Manziel has several worries just as big as Carr's to me, and not quite as high upside.
it doesn't matter who we pick... Chris Berman will look at the camera, shrug his shoulders, raise his eye brow, and say, "GUYS, is this a reach?"
Quote:Meanwhile, we keep to the process of developing Blaine Gabbert. At year four, he should be prepared by the franchise and treated as the starting quarterback. The Jaguars can draft a quarterback much later than round three.Right, because there's a chance Blaine Gabbert can develop into the next Bart Starr.

You know how I can tell?.....because everyone knows ESPN will be on commercial at our pick! :whistling: We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Manziel is one of the best players in the Nation, and HE CAN THROW. He is the size of Russel Wilson, with the same skill set.
Your kidding yourself if you don't think he is worthy of the 3rd overall pick.

I hope we trade with Houston just so I can experience ESPN cutting away from the first selection to show an Under Armour commercial.

I had no interest in Manziel at all, I always assumed by what I heard he was sort of like Tebow, only good at a college level. However ever since the Duke game I went back and checked out everything. I hope we get him, but I know if we dont it will be for a good reason. He's the QB that makes the most sense as of now. Last year we drafted players as potential playmakers, which he is. Gus seems to like competitive spirit, which he has. We want to run a hurry to the line type offense, which he does. Nows the part you're all gonna disagree, but I wouldnt use a first round pick on any other QB in the first round, rather have a Mettenberger or other later round pick. I think Bridgewater is a safer pick but nothing is promised and drafting a QB is so hit and miss you might as well aim high.
Not to rain on anyone, but there's nothing in that article to suggest Manziel is best fit for the Jags? Nothing about the playcalling or gameplan that the Jags currently have that would play to Manziel's strength.

Gus tries to carbon copy everything Seattle, picking up every castoff that was there when he coached them.....and since he can't have Russell Wilson, then Manziel, a caucasian carbon copy will suffice nicely.

This. If Gus and company think they can replicate Wilson's success with Manziel then I am all for it. I am definitely warming up to the idea especially if Teddy is off the board. My only thing with it all is - why are we emulating Seattle so much? I'd rather go from Caldwell's roots and emulate the Colts way. What the hell has Seattle ever won that we should be copying them to a tee?
The assumption that the Jaguars are copying some Seattle blueprint is very superficial, IMO. The defense will certainly run a similar scheme and that's not a bad thing. That's just standard "coaching tree" stuff that happens all the time.
(nobody complained when our defense was ranked near the top but borrowed plenty from JDRs time in Baltimore) Outside of that and a couple of waiver wire pickups who have been good on ST and are capable backups..... the comparison ends. If Manziel gets drafted by the Jags - it doesn't signal anything other than Caldwell believing he'll be a good QB.

What the hell has Seattle ever won that we should be copying them to a tee? The Colts way was to get a QB of Peyton's caliber, I don't see any Peytons out there for the time being. Quote:You don't see Manziel as a Russell Wilson type clone to Bradley? No. Manziel can be compared to Wilson but it has nothing to do with Bradley. Gus had zero to do with Wilson's selection. No reason to think he's inclined to find someone he considers similar. While he and Carroll may see eye to eye defensively we have no reason to assume he has similar offensive intentions. It's an unknown - and assuming otherwise is simply that. Assuming.
Manziel is short, Wilson is short...and they are both mobile. That is where the comparisons end. They are absolutely nothing alike in style of play, and Wilson is much stronger/thicker.
