ESPN: Johnny Manziel a good fit for Jaguars..

Short of Houston bringing in Ryan Mallet, they are drafting a QB. It's too big of a need. They might trade down with another team that needs a QB or Clowney though.

Are we to assume your views are "objective", that you have no biases or preferences?

And your argument against Manziel is that you think his fans are similar to Tebow fans?

That's the best you got?
Maybe you didn't read it properly, but I made no argument for or against Manziel. I simply said that DiRocco in his past has shown extreme bias toward SEC and UF players, and he appears to be easily swayed by the hype, excitement, stats, awards, rah rah players that the mainstream media loves to promote.

For real though, Manziel made more plays in that game than I've seen Jaguars QBs make in 5 years.

Maybe longer. Probably longer.

Murray and Manziel lol. So two undersized dopey rich kids destined to bust?

Jedd will be fired before Caldwell does something dumb like draft Manziel. Never happening. No matter how much the 18 and younger crowd wants it.

Quote:Put Bridgewater or Manziel behind the NFL's worst offensive line?

The problem with the late season 4-4 surge the Jaguars had is it began to make less knowledgeable football fans believe the Jaguars aren't so bad. What we saw in reality was any number of unmotivated, sluggish players supernova attempting to fight off their own demise.

Doesn't matter which ordinary, NON-elite quarterback you want the Jaguars to take.

The stubborn fact is our offensive line is the worst in the NFL. There's a crumple factor at quarterback just as there has been for the past six years.

Bridgewater and Manziel should go to an offense that can carry the weight of a fresh-faced rookie QB.

Meanwhile, we keep to the process of developing Blaine Gabbert. At year four, he should be prepared by the franchise and treated as the starting quarterback. The Jaguars can draft a quarterback much later than round three.

We need to focus on drafting elite talent. Best player available regardless of position.

Nothing wrong with Jake Matthews or Taylor Lewan at the three spot.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJvvMDGzzZ4
The thing is, teams are typically bad not just because of the QB position.

Usually, a bad team's roster has holes all throughout.

That said, I laugh at the idea you have to build an offensive line first before grabbing a QB.

A franchise QB is much much tougher to find than good offensive linemen.

If you lack a franchise QB and a competent OL, and you have the chance to take what you think could be a franchise QB, you take the signal caller while you can, and then build an OL around him.

Best case scenario, If you built a great OL first, and then decided to get the QB, your team will be just good enough to miss out on most of the franchise signal callers in the draft, but not good enough to seriously contend.  You end up wasting the prime of the great OL and still missing out.

This is why it made sense for Dallas to take Aikman first overall in 1989, when the OL stunk to high heaven.

Pittsburgh thrived and went to three Super Bowls with Ben Roethlisberger, even though they had one of the worst OLs in Super Bowl history.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

i do wonder about this

i mean with a new headcoach is it illogical he would want to see what he has in keenum and schaub this year like we did in gabbert and henne this year

it's not like next years qb class with mariota winston and hundley isn't a good class

he could then take another elite defensive prospect or take jake matthews who is considered to be the best overall player in the draft, case keenum running for his life was not all his fault and that right tackle spot is a big weakness for them.

Taking matthews would lock it down as duane brown is a lock on the other side. it would also help the running game

khalil mack could also be a good shot for them to add some extra pass rush beyond jj watt but the number one pick is a bit of a reach

the only issue is if bridgewater does fall past the texans the browns will probably trade up for him. We have picks but the cost to switch with the rams would be too much for me especially when you could have one out of  clowney or bridgewater or barr or bortles if you just stayed where you were

as for manziel well i've made my postion quite clear on him Smile

Quote:I guess you're right.  Seattle was done completely right, being patient and smart with their franchise QB draft method.

On the other hand, the Chiefs unfortunately had fat boy choke their shot away from his deserving players.

Oh really?

I love how teams like Seattle and New England get credit for Wilson and Brady.  Let's be honest everyone missed on these guys and I dont care what people say they would have taken them a few rounds before they went if they thought these two would have been the players they are today.  Sometimes luck plays a lot in the draft.

Quote:So Andrew Luck played in the NFL before he was drafted? Pfft.

Wilson's college tape hasn't changed from then to now.  All 32 teams watched it.   We watched him play too. He went in the 3rd round.  It is what it is.  Now that 5-11 Russel Wilson is a star in the NFL all of a sudden his college tape is looking a lot better.   If Russel Wilson was a bench warmer right now, I bet nobody is going back watching the tape claiming he's a 1st rounder.

Quote:Manziel is one of the best players in the Nation, and HE CAN THROW.  He is the size of Russel Wilson, with the same skill set.

Your kidding yourself if you don't think he is worthy of the 3rd overall pick.

Why do people keep comparing Manziel to Wilson?  They may be the same height, but Wilson looks much thicker.

Earliest I would take Manziel is late 20s. Wayy too much risk to take top 5. Only QBs worth drafting that high are teddy or bortles IMO.

This, except Bortles isn't worth top 5 either. So, Teddy only.

Every year before the draft people on this board fall in love with a guy they never knew existed in October.  This year, that player is Bortles.  Not that he couldn't be a great player in the pros, and he very well may be, but I already foresee people getting further and further entrenched in their conviction that we should take him if he is there at three and this guy was an absolute stranger to them this time 3 months ago.

We've been over this many times. Bortles has been viewed as a potentially high first rounder by draftniks since last year, but we've only thought he had a chance to declare for the last 4-6 weeks so the public is just now catching up to him. He isn't making some meteoric rise, he is just a year ahead of what we were expecting.

I never claimed he wasn't on some people's radar. The point I am making is some people will convince themselves he is clearly a better prospect than Bridgewater or Manziel, despite the fact they had never heard of him before simply because they are watching YouTube clips of him now.
