Bortles had a good game but let it down with a pick. Frustrating but a Mariota/smith wouldn't fare any better. O line was awful. No running game. Terrible wrs. We really do criticise him unfairly.

Bortles did not have a good game. If teams actually respected bortles, fournette and our backs would have more room. They dialed in on the line of scrimmage, stopped the run, and blitzed Blake. 

Blake had no answers. His passes were off target, no anticipation, not throwing receivers open. 

I was fairly impressed with gabbert. He was throwing to spots the receivers needed to be and gave them a chance.

Bortles had a decent third quarter. I thought the rest of the game he looked completely inept.

Back to this lol. This is how it’s gonna be every week. This is the nfl but more specifically for our team. We can beat anyone but unfortunately with the qb we have anyone can beat us. Since Blake is so bad everything else needs to be near perfect to win and with defensive players not playing up to par, defensive game plan issues and questionable game management, Blake was yet again shown for what we all know he is. A below avarrage qb. And that’s okay. We were never gonna win off his merit alone and to think we would is naivety. He can not hero ball us out of mistake from other areas and this should not be some new concept.

It’s okay. The team is 7-4. They will learn from their mistakes, clean up the game plan and go out and play the colts this week.

Robinson with a better QB is a really good receiver and Hurns while over paid.   Can have his moments.  

If Westbrook was as the number 3 or 4.  In his rookie year he would be much more productive.  

Or if Bortles was a wee more accurate.  I used to be a really good receiver back in HS.  And I am not 100 percent sure.   I would have a high percentage of catches either.  If  was nfl caliber.  

My point is ya can't break, turn, and re-gain speed and extend to catch a ball not even close.  Over and over again.  (Not to mention terrible spirals) 

And it is unfair our receivers have to deal with a QB that is highly not accurate.   And makes bone head throws at costly points during the game.

pound for pound I hate to admit it.  But Mariota is a better throwing QB then Bortles.  However, ya have to be able to take nfl hits and still make plays.  And by far Bortles is way more durable than Mariota.

And what happened the next season when we lost 3 o-linemen by the end of the first game? 

Neither Bortles nor Garrard are/were the type of QBs to overcome multiple injuries on the o-line and/or injuries to the top 2 WRs. The difference is, I doubt this front office will make the same mistake of signing Bortles to an expensive long-term deal. Depending on what's available at what price in FA, Bortles may or may not be here next year, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this team take a QB in the first four rounds regardless.

Bortles is 2-0 without Fournette this year and 1-1 with an injured Fournette.

You mean, the games against the Colts and Bengals in which the Jags defense were playing completely out of their minds?! 
The defense allowed a TOTAL of 7 points in those 2 games,, had continual sacks and 3 and outs, putting time of possession extremely in the Jags favor. (Yes, Bortles looked decent in those games. But let's not kid ourselves,, defense and special teams won those games). 

Bortles also did everything he  old to lose the Chargers game late in the 4th qtr. The defense refused to be defeated,, and won that one too.

Defense was not as good yesterday  (although they DID score another TD,, and got a crucial INT late when the Jags needed it). Defense stepped back,, Bortles couldn't do it. 

This team is all about the defense,, I'm sorry. If they don't play a stout game, or make some really key plays,, then the Jags likely lose. It's just the way it is.

I would agree with you except that in yesterday's case, Bortles was <50% throwing the ball for most of the day... (He is a QB not a RB) so while his rushing ability was about the only thing working, some of that has to do with his deficiencies as a QB.
Yes... the WRs and OL is banged up... yes the playcalling was suspect for the 2nd or 3rd game this year... And those aspects surely deserve their share of the blame.
But we see the same thing out of Bortles every week. And his best games come AFTER the D gifts him field position or a lead.
We've seen this team drag Bortles across the finish line and rarely see him put the team on his back.

yet Bortles couldn't even must to put the ball on target enough for the guys to make plays. Every team deals with injuries, drops, etc etc... That's when you find out what you really have in a QB.
Our has heart... he's got grit and guts and all that stuff... And that is awesome ... it makes me root for the guy and really WANT him to be "the guy".

But he isn't... he's just not THAT good.
It was another bad game from Bortles in which even marginal improvement in accuracy and decision making probably gives us a win. The defense was far from perfect, Church was burned a couple times, when Smith went out we got burned by a backup...

We only lost by 3... but that's with a defensive TD. Bortles has to be better and I don't think it is possible for him to actually be any better.
This team is still talented enough to get to 10 wins... but man... we'll be pushing, pulling, and draggin ol Bortles along the way, outside of when he possibly lights up terrible teams like SF and Indy

Blake Bortles fourth quarter numbers on the season: 42-73, 419 yards, 1 TD, 4 INT, 55.6 rating, 5.7 Y/A, 1.3 TD%, 5.4 INT%

So clutch.....

That's one of the big problems. Blake just never rises to the occasion. He played mediocre for most of the game. 

Yes the OL wasn't as good as normal. Chandler Jones was feasting. 

But every QB deals with that. Every QB deals with struggles on the offense. The truly good QBs find ways to overcome that. 

Generally, it's our defense that's been bailing Blake out. 

I don't think Blake is horrible, but there are nice upgrades that will be available next season and it would be silly to continue with Blake, unless the front office restructures with him and is confident a rookie could step in fast.

I wouldn't pay that 5th year option price to a guy who can't win us games

Brah Mariota is trash

Shouldn't drink so much on Sundays. I'd rather have Blake than Mariota, and I don't want Blake.

The $19 mil 5th-year option price is nothing compared to the franchise tag price for a qb, or for that matter, compared to the free agent contract price for any qb signficantly better than Bortles. I'm wondering if we may be able to get him for less next year by signing him to a small extension for an extra year or two.

I do think we want to QB in the draft, however, with us picking near the end of round one there likely won't be any immediate starters. I'm thinking we draft a guy with an optimal skill-set to groom properly behind Blake as the backup, and by that I mean letting him sit and learn for a couple years. I thought we had that guy in Brandon Allen, but now we need to look for another young up-and-comer with a great arm like he had.

Simply put, I feel Blake is plenty capable of winning games and staying healthy, the latter of which is something Luck, Mariota, Watson and Carr have all struggled to do. I'm not saying he doesn't have faults... his passes can certainly be more accurate, far too many of his passes get knocked down, and that wobble of his I have to think make his passes tough to catch ...but Blake manages to get the job done. We don't see him folding out there...rather we see him doing what it takes by scoring two TDs on his feet. The INT was unfortunate, but those happen... his INT rate over the past several weeks is actually rather encouraging. Moreover, the way Blake was playing late in the game I thought for sure that the Cards were going to miss that kick and the Jags were going to win in OT. That was one heck of a kick to win it.

In other words, we can win Blake, and had Wash given more thought to blizing Gabbert we would have won this game. All of that said, I'm weary of giving Blake a huge extension... I'm fine with a year or two more at a fair rate for both sides, but a mega-contract for Bortles could backfire if his arm fatigue issues were to surface in the future. Part of the reason we're winning is that we're running so well and have been able to keep Blake on a reasonable snap count. But if we find ourselves in the future unable to run over a longer stretch of time, things could turn ugly quick with Blake.

Well you won't see spacecoast next season (thank goodness) as his hero will be searching for another BACK UP qb job.

Well he may not even get a backup job.  I'm not sure what team will see the upside in a QB who has proven (and basically admitted) that he can't throw the ball at an NFL requisite level, or effectively read defenses this far along.  Good guy (though I'd like to see directly him call himself out more, like for that ridiculous INT yesterday), clearly a tough guy, and an athlete, just NOT an NFL QB at any level much less "good" or "elite".  I wish him well in his new career away from the Jaguars, and hopefully he has saved some money and leaves in good shape otherwise.
