Naw Blake isn’t any good. Anyone thinking other than that is just being silly. But he is our guy right now and we need him to play well. Even when the defense is firing on all cylinders he still can barely muster any offense. A dead give away that the qb is the problem is when your offense just stalls drive after drive. Even with loaded boxes he still struggles.

I think he is still learning and could one day be a solid option at qb but they are definitely acting another qb next year whether they decide to stay with him our not and it will be in the first two rounds.

if jags go after a new qb. this is who they should get. Brett Hundley. He can pass or run the ball. it would be a tripple threat with him,and fornate. teams wouldn't be able to stack the box anymore. hes a young qb plus he learned behind rogers who learned from favare which both qbs won a sb.

Bortles had a good game but let it down with a pick. Frustrating but a Mariota/smith wouldn't fare any better. O line was awful. No running game. Terrible wrs. We really do criticise him unfairly.

Blake was 0/6 on passes that travelled 10+ yards downfield. Only 3 of his 19 completions went farther than 5 yards in the air. That's unreal.

What you mean is that Blake had a good game running the ball. In the more important aspects of his position, he was awful.

I really don't see how some continue to find ways to defend his play. I think most fans actually like the guy as a person but we've seen more than enough to know that he is not a capable passer. I would be surprised if most aren't literally scared every time he drops back to pass. It just shouldn't be that way. The worst part is that all we need him to be is Trent Dilfer this year and he can't even manage that.

Well he may not even get a backup job.  I'm not sure what team will see the upside in a QB who has proven (and basically admitted) that he can't throw the ball at an NFL requisite level, or effectively read defenses this far along.  Good guy (though I'd like to see directly him call himself out more, like for that ridiculous INT yesterday), clearly a tough guy, and an athlete, just NOT an NFL QB at any level much less "good" or "elite".  I wish him well in his new career away from the Jaguars, and hopefully he has saved some money and leaves in good shape otherwise.

If Blaine and Tebow can get numerous chances so will Blake.   Due to one season of great numbers.  

However, what more can we do to make Blake succeed?  He has a top rated tackle and a top rated running back and a high potential receiver.  And Elite D and good Returners.

At some point Blake has to be to blame.

I don't think Blake is nearly as bad as folks make him out to be. He's not Drew Brees or Tom Brady. Precision isn't his game (many of us wish it was).

But we have proven we can win with this guy provided other facets of the offense are working, such as a running game, adequate pass blocking/time, receivers that can get a bit more separation, etc. I don't think any QB could function with a collapsing pocket for 90% of the game, and a running game that was .. well, just Blake and no one else.

In a nutshell, I think we are missing two key pieces of the line, and Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns.

Again...Bortles needs the short stuff to work to be proficient. A good defense will shut that crap down. He can't make a 15 yard deep out throw for a first down. It needs to be a crossing route or a TE seam off play action.

Bortles is aweful. He has a short leash on. We're a West coast type offense.

Lee is leading the league.
But no one is being hosed more than Carr (All three of his top targets have 4+ drops each)

If you watch Bortles throw the ball though, it isn't just about drops. His decision making is poor, his accuracy isn't good, his pre-snap reads are weak.
It is time to stop making excuses for Bortles.

Cole had gotten behind coverage and the pass was delivered perfectly and he still dropped it. On the poorly called pass play to Lee on that last drive, the ball hit him in the hands and he almost slapped the thing away like he's a DB. If both of those plays go the other way, the mental errors Bortles has had would be minimized completely.

Not defending Blake, BTW, but when we're talking about being victimized, his receivers (including Marcedes and Yeldon who both had drops this past week) have done more than their fair share to undermine any potential success this offense might be able to find in these games. There have been a couple of losses so far this year where Lee has contributed directly by not catching passes he should have.

Sorry, but if the pass was delivered perfectly Cole would have walked into the end zone untouched. Bortles threw it 10 yards too far to the left and Cole had to veer back into the defender while adjusting his body backwards to get his hands on it. He could have still made the catch, but it wasn't easy...and obviously very far from a perfect pass.

Bortles pass was on the outside of the DB, forcing Cole to come back INTO coverage and attempt to make the catch.  He literally threw the DB back into the play, instead of putting the ball to the inside and in front of Cole, where he'd have had the easy catch and likely a TD.  THAT... would have been delivered perfectly.

Hell, that was even called out on the Broadcast.

Bortles routinely throws the ball in position to make the catch FAR more difficult than it should be, and that's the #1 reason our Offense looks pathetic.  The easy stuff isn't easy.
