I mean the Pats looked terrible against Miami. Thankfully we shouldn't be going to the west coast cause that place is a curse.

Hopefully the performance is just an issue with playing poorly out west, luckily we wont have to deal with that in the playoffs
Do not worry.
First of all, the Jaguars are missing good wide receivers. Second, the buzz around the 49ers is not a mirage, despite what Bears, Texans, Tacks and Jag fans said prior to the game. Having a good quarterback really does make a team a lot better. So the Jaguars did not just lose to a 4-10 team. They lost to a 4-0 team that started 1-10 and suddenly started dominating time of possession and scoring almost every drive as soon as the new qb started playing. Third, a lack of focus killed the team today. They went full Seahawks mode. This can be a real lesson for these young guys about having a killer instinct that is strong enough to keep emotions in check. Fourth, while New England is a real threat, it might not even come to that as they could lose, and furthermore their defense is not that intimidating. Fifth, not only do the 49ers have a quality qb, they also have the best play caller in the league. No one left to face will be on that level except McDaniels. Bottom line: if the Jaguars get healthy and start acting like winners (e.g. no idiotic headbutts on the most important series of the game), they have a chance.
Look I respect and appreciate the enthusiasm. The fact is this team has a lot of growing up to do in the next two weeks to be competitive in the play offs. They did not show any intestinal fortitude today on defense to warrant the praise that has been heaped upon them of late. Players being restrained from each other on the side sideline. Garappolo absolutely owned the defense today, and we went full blown Seahawks mode while getting embarrassed. I love this team but today was telling, very telling.

At some point you just have to let go of what you thought should happen and live in what is happening.
We sure looked ready after the Steelers and ravens games.
This game didn’t matter. Once the bills lost and titans lost we were locked into that 3rd seed. Just get out of the game with no injuries. If at the end you can win it try but you’ve done your job for the regular season. The focus is now the post season We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

The way the team played and the way they lost IS concerning. But carry on. Remember 2006 when the Jags ran all over the clots and everybody was talking about how the Indy wasn't ready for the playoffs and if the Jaguars could do that to their run defense then a playoff team would have no issue beating them? Instead it refocused the clots and they improved their defense enough to win the Super Bowl. I fully expect the same to happen here, the defense is going to look at the tape, see how Garoppolo beat them and change whatever needs changing so it won't happen again. I'm not saying we're going to win it all like Indy did in 2006 but this loss will make the team better in the long run.
I think Marrone can get them refocused.
They have time to address the defensive mistakes, the Bortles bad decisions, and maybe they even rest a few banged up guys in week 17. It was the worst performance they've turned in this year, but they can bounce back. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Honestly though, even if what disturbed me the most last night was the attitude/effort of the team, what worried me the most was the defensive gameplan, Shanahan owned us, just like Arians did. It seems like we struggle against QBs that get rid of the ball quick, without doing too much but just taking advantage of our zone and that Wash in those games has a hard time adjusting. I hope they can fix that. I would be ok with resting players next week though, at this point I don't care who we play in the playoff, we know we can beat anyone and lose to anyone depending on how we "decide" to show up, so I would prefer not to risk other players getting injured (especially on offense). Sometimes teams with a lot of young talent read their own press clippings and need to be reminded. That's what happened today. I was thinking (hoping) this is our "375" game. We shall see, over all a very disappointing game.

The zone scheme is part of it, but it looked to me like much of that was on the players and not the scheme. The safeties, the LBs and even Bouye seemed to struggle to read and react many times throughout the game and were often caught taking bad angles or reacting too late. Whether the fix involves simply playing less zone, adjusting responsibilities and positioning within the zone, or specifically drilling the mistakes in the coming weeks, they'll need to sort it out somehow. Shanahan was certainly smart in attacking the defense, but they were caught flat-footed in responding to it. They'll absolutely need to be able to respond to a smart OC and quick-release QB much more adeptly if they hope to advance in the post season.

For sure individual players' performances and efforts didn't help the scheme last night. The pattern though was the same of the Cardinals game (same strategy they used with Gabbert, but Garoppolo is better) and to a certain extent to the Jets game. Genuine question: in games like these, when zone isn't working and players seems to be a bit lost, wouldn't some basic man-coverage more effective at least to mitigate the issues in an easier more immediate way considering our players are talented enough? I'm not talking about preparing the game like that, but as in-game adjustement when QB's are getting rid of the ball quick and with accuracy like Jimmy G. To your last sentence, I surely hope they'll adjust for that type of opponent. Brady would have a career day if we play like that and maybe other teams that forced some stuff on us (like Pittsburgh did) will start to adjust as well if we meet them again. I'm just glad that we won't be traveling west coast in the playoffs if we win on wildcard weekend. I think its a mental isssue for our team at this point.

I would think so, yes. I think perhaps one reason they don't is because they are hoping to minimize one on one mismatches where slot receivers and TEs are being covered by linebackers. Although - I'm not quite savvy enough with the various schemes to be certain of all of my scheme assumptions. While LBs still get caught covering such players in zone coverage, ideally they'd get help from a safety once the WR/TE gets far enough beyond the L.O.S. In man coverage - there's less chance of that help.
