I mean - forget right, forget left, forget your opinion on Trump. 

The president (any president) making such a statement is a ghastly error in diplomacy. You can like his candor all you want - but there are lines that when crossed simply damage your ability to engage in international diplomacy on solid footing.

From what I gather, this occurred behind closed doors in a venue where politicians typically use frank language with the implicit understanding that what is said there stays there. It's entirely likely that equally egregious statements have been uttered by others in the past with the understanding being honored. If true, Durbin has poisoned the well.

I don't think a high-profile supposedly bipartisan meeting about a hot topic falls under what is traditionally thought of as a closed door meeting. I doubt it is likely anyone else would say something so offensive under those circumstances.

I think Trump said it knowing it would get out, and appeal to his base. This thread apparently confirms the latter.

This year I did not have the pleasure of eating one delicious juicy mango, that grew in my yard, because Haitians took them all. The neighbor down the street had a huge mango tree that he had to cut down because Haitians kept climbing the tree to get the mangos. It is obviously a liability at this point so he had no choice but to cut it down. This is just one example but all of these things ultimately lead to land value decrease. But who does this? Normal people have a standard and that standard does not involve climbing other people's trees to pick mangos.

I know to some it sounds racist that I say "Haitians" did this, but it is the absolute truth. What group of civilized people act like this? In my predicament, would I rather have neighbors who are from Norway, or from Haiti?

They were talking specifically about the events occurring after Gaddafi's death. He was not talking about the Libyans in general. Trump, on the other hand, asked why we want anyone from any African country. Yes, many of those countries are [BLEEP], but does that mean they all are, and none of their people are talented or hard working? 

One was talking about a specific situation in a specific country, the other was making a generality about the people from an entire continent. This is not a subjective opinion, it's an objective appraisal of both statements. Reconcile that one for me.

No, Trump was referring to the Visa Lottery which specifically prioritizes people from certain countries to be immigrants to the US. In that context it's a valid question to ask why the US is giving priority to immigrants from [BLEEP] Hole countries. He wasn't claiming that every African country was a [BLEEP] Hole, or talking about every citizen of the [BLEEP] Hole countries.

And interestingly enough, Obama supported the rebels in Libya who overthrew and killed Gaddafi. He was among those responsible for turning Libya into a [BLEEP] Hole.
