Rarely, do teams outright beat the Patriots. When a team wins 12-14 games year in and year out. It was like this in the early 90s with Dallas. KC did on opening night and in the, "We're on to Cincinnati game. Dolphins do it now and then. Jets in the playoffs a few years ago. Falcons in last year's SB until the 4th quarter. Those are some examples quickly off the top of my head when NE just got beat. The Jags have a defense that can be great, but they've also had some stinkers too.

It's going to depend on which Bortles shows up. The one that played Buffalo or the one the beat the lowdown, dirty, Steelers. NE has only given up 14 points/game over the last 12 games. It's really good too.

I am curious when you became a fan of the Pats? Convient to leave out Panthers and KC from your team defense. Honestly though looking at the scores, yeah your defense has played better than I remembered. Does look like scrambling QBs give them trouble.  I am looking forward to the end of the Pat reign and I hope we can ccntribute with our mediocre QB.

Not much longer now. Go Jags!
If you add in the KC and Carolina games, they have still given up less than 17 points/game. They give up yards, but not points. Running QBs can give them trouble, but they did a nice job with Mariota last week.

I became a Pats fan back during the Steve Grogan years. I was in high school when the Pats got spanked by the Bears. I've lived through the 1, 2, and 3 win seasons. In my wildest dreams, I never imagined the Pats would have the level of success that they've had with Brady/Belichick. I was prepared to be happy with making the SB once every decade and hope the ball bounced their way just one time. I'm not one of those that hopped on the bandwagon 25 years ago when Kraft changed the Patriots' fortunes.

I know it won't last forever, but I'm hoping for a few more years!

Stopped reading at the word “woke”. And had already skipped a lot up to that point. I’d prefer a Jags/Eagles Super Bowl so we’re not playing a true road game, but I’ll take whatever the NFC gives us happily as long as we beat the Pats. And if the Jags make it, I don’t care if the rest of the nation can’t get jazzed for the game but I don’t think will be the case anyway.

No.  At least now, the overwhelming majority of the commenters want to see the Vikes and Jaguars in the SB.

One of the many truly idiotic things about the article that stands out to me is how he worries about casual fans not knowing the Jaguars or Vikings.

Since when has the league prospered by catering to the ignorant and ambivalent?

Could someone please explain to me how there is so much optimism being expressed regarding the chances of a team that lost TWICE to the same team that NE just embarrassed last weekend?  I don't see it.
Just like I don't see the Jags' defense scheming up a plan to stop all of the Patriots' and Brady's weapons.  Just not gonna happen, unless Belichick is playing around with the injury report and Brady's hand was actually severed in that injury!

Different teams match up with each other differently.

Using your logic, KC beat you, and then Tennessee beat KC, therefore Tennessee should have beaten you.

Furthermore, teams that HAVE had success against you guys were successful at pressuring Brady.  The Jaguars rush the passer very well.  We have four different guys with eight (8) sacks or more, including two with double digit sacks, featuring Defensive Player of the Year and First team All Pro Calais Campbell.

If we beat the Patriots, it'll be two solid weeks of this stuff from the national media....from Kornheiser, Paige, et al.

If we win against the Patriots-and for that matter win the Super Bowl-pissing off guys like this will make it even sweeter.

I would wager that more NFL fans including "casual fans" would rather not see the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

I also think that the biggest flaw in this idiot's column is the fact that the focus is on the QB rather than the team.  I saw another crybaby rant earlier this week (I want to see that it was Stephen A Smith) complaining about the AFC South Championship matchup was ruined because it was Brady vs. Bortles rather than Brady vs. Rothlesburger.

Many in the national media and the popular "bloggers" didn't see the Jaguars coming this far.

Win or lose Sunday, this team has come a long way.

I'm not sure what that article is talking about because I'm not going to read it. But a long time ago I gave up reading anything about the Jags from national media. They just dont know anything about our team and most likely will have a negative viewpoint just to be funny. It's a shame because it'd be nice to read or listen to real insight on our team but it just doesnt exist out there. The only one I can think of in recent memory is Bill Barnwell who would every so often write a really good piece. But otherwise it's just utterly worthless crap. It's so much better to just listen to our local guys. And I think Prisco, Boselli, Lageman, and a few others give enough real quality insight to satisfy one's interest in the team. So you dont even need to get it from an outside source such as the national media.

It's not all bad. A few guys are coming around but most still think we don't stand a chance against the Pats. Not that i dont see where they're coming from but it's like people forget the addage of "any given sunday" when it comes to the Jags. Sometimes I feel like even the Browns would get more respect if they managed to turn it around than we would.

Good on you Ricko for being a Grogan fan. Just making sure you weren't spoiled fan type. We were at the start of the franchise existence. Suffering has been a long hard road.
Birth of the Franchise - November 30, 1993
Death of the Franchise - November 29, 2011

Fans deserve better. Thanks for all the good times too many are in the past.

According to this turd they do it often. I don't know who he is but I don't think he knows jack about football and is one of those ignorant and ambivalent folks pitching a fit because he's not getting what he wants. He needs to go write this stuff in his diary and keep his meltdown to himself.

I don't usually read anything from sports media outside of what jaguars.com puts up, but I've been curious to know what the country is thinking in regards to this post season. I don't know how some of these articles actually make it onto a website they are so poorly written. Whether it be a sports site or a news site it's terrible. People aren't even remotely objective because they seem to think we want to know their personal feelings. You can tell the older folks from the younger just by the verbiage used in these articles.

Well, tried to read the article with an open mind even after the comments here.
He does have an awkward way of getting to his point which is the very last sentence.....

"Come to think of it, some new faces in the Super Bowl might be refreshing."

I didn't care about the media when we stunk really bad and were the punch line of every joke and I don't care about the media now. Hypocritical nuts. There is no seat on the jaguars bandwagon for any media turd that has just cracked jokes about us for over a decade.
No pain, no gain.

Fact the dude is talking about SuperBowl XLII which was Pats & Giants in 2008 meant I stopped reading at that point, if you don't know Super Bowl LII is on 4th Feb this year as a journalist in the sport then your content isn't worth reading.

Because we're a better team than the Miami Dolphins. And since the Patriots lost to the Dolphins (in an actually meaningful and recent game - unlike both Titans losses) that means it's not worth playing the game, and the Patriots should just concede.

The Jags' defence doesn't need to scheme up a plan to stop all of the Patriots' and Brady's weapons. Because they're actually really good across the board. Which is lucky, because that's what you need to stand a chance. Getting cute with schemes will get you beaten badly. Brady can't do what Roethlisberger did last week (and still lost). He's not the same sort of QB, and he doesn't have the receivers for it. So throw away your fantasies of 42 points, because unless things become totally unhinged on the defensive side of the ball, that won't happen.

Face facts; this isn't a sure thing either way. Anyone who thinks it is is either ignorant or delusional. Or getting overexcited at a fan rally after beating Pittsburgh at their home for the second time this season. As I always say, I wish the Patriots were half as foolish as their fans - then this would be an easy win for Jacksonville.

This about covers the whole conversation. Neither side should be comfortable going in to this match up. Both teams are good at what they do, and what they are best at the other team is equally adept at countering.

I can see this game being a low scoring defensive battle. I can also see a repeat shootout like last week. What I can't see is a complete blowout by either side. Neither team has that big of an advantage in any one area.

Win or lose neither team should be upset with their finish to the season.

Good luck, and good game.
