Believe it or not I can see a scenario where Blake Bortles take less to stay here even if he have a good year next year based on his love for the defense who has stood by him and defended his character when others try to make him a punchline throughout the NFL. I can see a scenario where he will want to do whatever it takes to keep the team together instead of trying to break the bank for a few extra dollars especially when him and his family lives in Florida.

Lets compare Kirk Cousin development in Washington and i bet that he was set up to be successful there and base on what Kirk had at his disposal he was in a better situation and it wasn't even close.

2014 - Jags 4.5 YPC, 26th in yards allowed, and 26th in points allowed. Skins 4.2 YPC, 20th in yards allowed, and 29th in points allowed.
2015 - Jags 4.2 YPC, 24th in yards allowed, and 29th in points allowed. Skins 3.7 YPC, 29th in yards allowed, and 27th in points allowed.
2016 - Jags 4.2 YPC, 6th (!) in yards allowed, and 25th in points allowed. Skins 4.5 YPC, 28th in yards allowed, and 19th in points allowed.

I did that already in another thread recently, and as you can see Cousins was dealing with just as bad (if not worse) of a supporting cast. Blake had generally a slightly better run game and slightly better defense by the numbers. Hopefully we can just agree that both had really bad teams surrounding them and not argue semantics.

The difference of course is that Cousins dragged his awful supporting cast to an above .500 record while Blake dragged our awful supporting cast to three top 5 picks.

1. Schedule getting much harder.

I just said logical probabilities.

Our schedule was the 5th easiest. Instead of now facing the last place teams in divisions we are playing 1st place teams (I assume you understand how the schedule works but maybe that's a bad assumption). The odds that we have a bottom 5 easiest schedule is highly unlikely, truth.

Our entire starting 11 on defense missed 3(!) total starts the entire season. We lost one significant player to injury all year. Almost every other team is getting more players back from injury, truth.

We have the most money spent toward our 2018 cap, fortunately we have rollover but that will be spent quickly. Other teams can spend more thus get better by a factor more than us. Truth.

Almost every other teams has higher draft picks and more draft picks since we draft 29th and don't have a 5th rounder. That's truth.

And every year a number of teams find great talent picking in the twenties, and fifties and on and on. 

Picking later is not some sort of draft death sentence. There will be upgrades to be had even if the team stays with its current picks.
