Anybody but Bradford. The guy gets healthy enough to get signed then goes down with an injury. No on Bridgewater, too, despite playing in a game last year he's still coming off a major injury. He's one decent hit away from oblivion.

McCarron, Keenum...those type guys will want more $$ than we'll want to pay. Then there's the usual suspects like Cassel, Fitzpatrick, McClown, etc who are either done, signed, or no good.

I honestly think McCown is gonna retire. I didn't even count him as being in the running, because I don't believe he will be back. I definitely want a rookie as our #2. That was the point I was trying to make. I don't want an old veteran. I want someone who can be the future of the franchise. There is no FA QB worth the money they will demand in free agency. Draft a rookie on the first or second day and bring him in to be the heir to the starting QB job. As for Bridgewater, no way. He's coming off a major injury, he didn't fare that well when he was healthy and I have a feeling he is gonna be fragile, because his lower body and legs are so thin.

And Teddy couldn't beat out Keenum.  I don't believe he could beat out Blake.  And if you're gonna pay what the market will demand for him, he's not worth it.  Of the three Minnesota qbs, I think only Keenum would have even odds of winning the job from Blake.  You want a cheap veteran backup who won't lose games for you if he has to play.  And draft your real backup that may develop into the future starter.  Currently, I enamored with Mason Rudolph.

Here's a remote scenario for Bradford. I read somewhere he has degenerative knee issues. He has made TONS of money in his career. Maybe he's physically at the point where he shouldn't be the main guy, but can be the clipboard holder for the next 5 years. Save his knees. Under that scenario a few million would suffice.

Don't be so naive.

Both Foles and Keenum were failed starters whose careers became back up journeymen much like Henne. If anyone thought they would be able to be as productive as they were, they would have never been back ups to begin with. Both guys could turn around and fall flat on their faces next season like they have in previous seasons.

No one had any foresight or expectations that these guys would be able to do what they did. It was pure luck. Unless you plan on trading picks for an up and coming player or giving a big contract to a starting caliber player, no back up is going to bring better measurable odds of success than Henne. Most back ups are failed starters or guys who are not talented enough to earn a starting gig, exactly like Henne. It's the nature of the position.

That's why organizations value things like familiarity with the system when choosing a back up because that is about the only tangible trait they can use to try to evaluate whether or not a back up QB will be able to produce when his number is called.

That's why you don't sweat the position. It's nothing more than a roll of the dice as to whether your back up will be able elevate his game when it's his time.

There is a good chance we won't bring back Henne, but to think we will be able to go out their and find a back up that we would be confident in being able to play like Foles or Keenum when needed is nothing more than wishful thinking.

You actually have a good point.  Just look at the various (little known) WRs that excelled with Drew Brees at QB.   Marques Colston out of Hoftstra benefited most as he's now #1 on the Saints all time WR stat list with 9700 yards and 72 TDs

The small chance that he becomes a FA, I do agree. The guy is 39 only has 2-3 more years left probably and we are in a position to win now.

He couldn't get on the field.  Is that choice of words more to your liking?  As much as the coach and the Vikings organization love them some Teddy, if he was at least as good as Keenum he would have been under center.  He's not.
