What if the plan is to go after Watkins, ASJ and Pugh in FA? That fills your needs. It then allows you to go straight BAP in the draft either going QB at in the first and CB in the second or CB in the first and QB in the second?

Early in the process, it’s starting to look like that may be the plan

Lol I support Blake I’m just trying to see a strategy in player acquisition that’s all. What I’m proposing is not as far fetched as you may deem it to be. We don’t even have a second qb on the roster. I could see the Pats having set the trend of just drafting a guy in the second or third round to back up the qb that way you have a go to option if the guy gets hurt while offering developmental competition. Blake  is clearly the qb for this year and most likely next but I think it would be naive to think the front office isn’t leaving the option open. His contract extension is a clear indication of that.

We have also seen, in history, teams draft the next qb while they have a viable option currently playing (Green Bay, Pats, Atlanta you get my drift)

Blake signed a team friendly contract that gave us more money to play with and an easy out. Nothing has changed. We were never going to spend a ton of money on a FA QB, but that doesn't mean we've settled on Bortles as the long term starter. We are still going to be looking for an upgrade at QB. Maybe that is in round 1, round 2 or round 3. It all depends on where the right player falls.

It's gonna be Watkins and Pugh.  Makes too much sense not to happen.  Both 1st round picks of Marrone and Coughlin who played well for them and are at a position of current need.

Would be two really strong signings and I'd expect the jags to also get a TE even if it's lower tier.

If Watkins can stay healthy we might see bortles deep ball start to be a little more dangerous

Is it correct that Bortles signed a deal that decreases his pay significantly in the second and third years? With Cousins and maybe one or two other backup type QBs with sudden playoff fame about to re-write QB salary limits, all the elites QB are in line to make a giant leap over whatever massive contracts Cousins and the backup QBs get.

To contrast that, Bortles signed a deal that decreases his salary at a time when the true elite NFL quarterbacks are set to leapfrog over the kind of money Cousins, et. al will be getting in this free agency period.

Obviously, it looks like Bortles was out-smarted by the Jaguars. He signed a contract that makes him very attractive to other NFL franchises. Trade?

Do not want Watkins. He had one decent season and it was almost 3 years ago. If that's their plan, they should have signed Arob. His last decent season was the same year.
