Guard Andrew Norwell to sign with Jags (merged)
|
I like this move a lot. It's possible we manage to go QB early as well now.
Probably our first 3 picks will be OG, TE, QB in any order. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Fantastic.
I've always said that if you build a monstrous wall of an offensive line, even Jags02 could play quarterback behind it.
Season Ticket holder since 2004.

Looks like we’ll be zigging while the rest of the league is zagging? Interesting.
The left side of our line is absolutely going to crush DLs. (03-13-2018, 11:51 AM)Jags02 Wrote:(03-13-2018, 06:54 AM)ColoJag Wrote: Leaves us with 16 million I believe? I'd rather front load it and leave space in 2019/2020 for all the second contracts coming up on defense. The Jags can address nickel corner, RG, TE and backup QB in the draft without needing to throw around much more FA money. We show less advertisements to registered users. Good signing. A position of need that isn't saturated, filled. Well done Jags!
I'm not going to complain about getting a really good player, but holy hell that's a ton of money for a non premium position. I can't help but think that giving essentially that same money to Arob or that money + what they gave Blake for Cousins wouldn't make us a better team. Doubling down is obviously the theme of this offseason though and Norwell will definitely help with that.

You cant reasonably expect to draft a guy that will instantly be a top guard in the NFL. Its all about establishing our identity on offense. We want to run the ball... you cant count on drafting an All Pro rookie guard... there is an element of luck involved in that. We show less advertisements to registered users. Offensive line may not get the glory but it is a premium position, especially is running the ball is the focus. ![]() (03-13-2018, 11:55 AM)Upper Wrote: I'm not going to complain about getting a really good player, but holy hell that's a ton of money for a non premium position. They are about to destroy people in the run game and their defense is still dominant. I think Blake will be better than he was in 2017 but I'm more excited about Fournette. If he takes this off season seriously, he should be able to run for 1600 yards or more. (03-13-2018, 11:56 AM)brianmsbc Wrote:(03-13-2018, 11:07 AM)sacksonville2k Wrote: Just an awful signing. Also, remember, we're not through with receivers yet. The draft is coming up, and it's a good draft for WRs and TEs.

I would agree if our oline wasn't already fine, but I think it was. We were 10th in yards created before contact in the run game and also 10th in pressures allowed per dropback or something like that (it was an NGS stat I forget exactly what it was but we were good). If our top 5 pick RB can't excel behind an already above average line... I just think we're going to see some diminishing returns with Norwell. Going from above average to good at oline isn't going to be the same from going from below average to good at QB or receiving corps. But like I said it's fine Norwell will obviously help. I'm not saying it won't be good for the offense I've said twice that it will be, I just don't think AS good as upgrading positions that were weaker than our oline was. Good signing. Keep the trenches secure and pound the rock. Find a WR and TE in the draft. Jags have done well finding undrafted talent as well.
