Ohio Student Suspended for Refusing to Leave Classroom During Gun Control Walkout

A high school student in Hilliard, Ohio, didn’t want to pick sides in the contentious gun debate surrounding Wednesday’s “National Walkout,” so he stayed in class instead of joining the largely anti-gun protest or an alternative “study hall.”

Walk outs...

Pathetic.

It's adults telling kids, hey, do you want to leave school early? They don't give a crap about anything other than leaving school early.

Just pathetic, pathetic, pathetic liberals attempting to control the narrative by using mindless children.

There was a lot more of this that is not getting attention like in Minnesota. Go figure. Nevermind the couple of student groups that felt the need to get violent and destroy property like in Tennessee.

Not taking sides is always a valid option.

A quick read of the article reveals he was suspended for not taking the choice of either attending the rally or going to a supervised study hall that was offered to students who did not want to attend. The school was not going to let students remain in the school unsupervised.

In short, you guys are once again so gullible for The Drifter's red meat. The student was not suspended for refusing to protest, he was punished for refusing to abide by a reasonable rule.

Reasonable rule my [BLEEP]. His teacher has zero business not having the normal class and suspending the truants for skipping.

Where was the teacher?  Shouldn't the teacher have been in class you know teaching?

Are you two equally outraged by any student activity for which the students are excused from class?

They shouldn't be excused for a political "walk out" and no study hall should be substituted so the teacher can goad the students into participating.

My thoughts on the matter are why are the faculty not doing their job?  You know teaching?  As to your question, why was this event an excused and organized absence?  Let's be honest here RJ would a NRA rally be sanctioned and an excused reason to miss class?

Everyone should be enraged anytime a school uses students to try and advance a political objective...I don't pay school taxes to cancel classes due to political events that kids really have no business "supporting"...Most of those kids probably have no idea what the gun laws are and the procedure to buy one, all they know is they want school shootings stopped, plus a day out of classes...Grown adults should be ashamed of themselves for using kids as pawns in support of their own political views...If my kids school would ever do that, I would pull them out of that school the next day and use a different source to educate my kids, maybe even sue the school district

in 1984 the parents are terrified of the children who grew up under government sponsored propaganda. Weaponizing children to push an agenda is wrong, if you believe in that agenda or not.

The "walk-out" was a lesson in irresponsibility. I can't think of a more insecure plan than to announce a certain date and time when students at every school would be outside and vulnerable to an AR-15 attack.

I think you completely missed the actual irresponsible part which is the students being used as political pawns. What you state feeds this false narrative that guns are such an issue that you cannot go outside without fear, let alone assemble. Whether the left wants to believe it or not, this is not an epidemic but simply fear mongering with an agenda. Ironically, you aren't seeing or hearing much on the bombings in Austin neighborhoods, yet every gun incident gets constant airplay.

The Public school system has no right to force children to help adults try to advance their own political agenda...I hope a group of parents come together and force a class action lawsuit against them

They both have legit points. My first question was, where was the teacher?
