I hate to be one of these provincial Northeast types, but we really do seem to at least discuss football more objectively than most fans down there. I know not all of them fall into that category described above, but there are indeed a sect that do. Theres also another sect of some really smart fans like Bullseye for example that sees things as they are.

So, in your opinion the coaches suck, the owners suck,. the players suck and the fans are dumb.   Tell me again why you continue to infest this board?  And don't even claim to be a fan of this team, the city they play in or the fans of the team. your posts prove that is not the case.

Suggestion. Maybe you guys should stop arguing semantics about what the word "above-average" means (apparently that means suck to some people and really good to others), and start talking about where he ranks in the NFL. And I mean where he ranks NOW, not where he's going to rank 3 years from now.

Good point, he's in the 2nd tier of qb's in my opinion. He's even with Cutler and the romos of the world. That's a pretty good category. But as I've been saying, he's beatable. Saturday's game shows just that. With time in the pocket, he'll pick you apart. But he is inaccurate too often.


Also I think that as teams game plan for him, he could take a step back next year. You take away his dump downs and check downs and he could be a bigger turnover machine than he already is.


He's a good qb, but he just doesn't scare me. If that makes me dumb, so be it.

I think most would agree there's Manning, Brees, Brady, Rodgers.  Then just based on play and/or accomplishments and statistics or whatever, your next group is probably any number of Stafford, Ryan, Rivers, Dalton, Roethlisberger, Flacco, Romo, Luck, Manning, Newton, Wilson, RGIII, Kaepernick, Cutler, Foles.  Or something like that.  I think I'd put him anywhere from 8th to 14th.  So basically if 1st-4th is elite, and 16th is average.  5th-15th is above average. That's a total of 11 quarterbacks that could be considered above average, realistically less since many would consider 14th and 15th as average too.

The Bengals are a far better team then the Colts in almost every position accept one. 

 

I'll take it one step further.  Factoring in all of the injuries,  not counting the most important position on the field,  I would take the Bengals roster over any roster in the entire AFC.

Colts clearly proved they belonged in the playoffs as a division champion. Yes, they lost to some bad teams, but we beat the best teams in the league. Heck, 3 of the 4 remaining teams have lost to the Colts!

 

When your argument is for the total number of playoff appearance, in a division where any competent QB would win the division, I think it's important to note just how bad the AFC South has been. It doesn't prove he's as good as you make him out to be, it says more about just how bad the AFC South is right now.

Anyone that can't see that Luck is the guy driving the colts success and that Dalton is just a guy hitching a ride on the back of his team's wagon either hasn't been watching games or doesn't understand what they're seeing.

 

Stats can show a lot, but they can't show how a guy tilts the situation in his team's favor during the crucial moments of games.

It's a team game bud. W/L statistics when judging a specific player makes no sense. That's like saying because the Texans were 2-14 this year, JJ Watt was terrible.


You have to look at individual statistics. Which all of his are average and posted 2x in this thread.

You do realise that Curtis painter is not a starting calibre qb though surely? You won like 2/5 with orlovsky who isn't starting calibre either.
