I keep hearing Mack's name, but don't understand why folks think it's a given he'll be let walk.

Quote:There's actually a much better chance of him signing one or two of these three starters from NEW ENGLAND.

WR - Edelman

RB - Blount

C -  R. Wendell

Belichick won't re-sign all three. Probably only the center if the past is any indication.

Not sure why we'd want any of these.

Blount will be 28 next year and is IMO a cog/ role type of runner as opposed to being able to handle feature back duties. Yeah yeah, so he had a great game last week against a garbage run defense, big deal. I wouldn't pay that guy a lot.

Edelman is smilar to Ace Sanders, so not sure why we'd go in that direction for a WR.

I don't know that Center Wendell too much so I'll refrain from comment there.

If the knee checks out and he isn't too expensive wouldn't mind getting Brandon Spikes to compete at SLB.

He doesn't have the range or speed to play SLB. IMO he's stuck as a thumper MLB in a 3-4.

I agree. He doesn't exactly fit the player type Caldwell is looking for. He wants to get some speed on the field.

No to spikes as well we play 2 teams that like PA to the TE (Indy,Houston) and i could see Spikes getting murdered on these with his lack of speed. Maybe if Poz was willing to play OLB and we put Spikes in the middle but even then i would have concerns over him getting to the outside to help with speed backs and being taken advantage of on cutbacks.

Yeah.  You're probably right.  Who in their right mind would want a bruising 250 pound RB/KR that just scored 4 touchdowns in one playoff game and a 1000 yard receiver??

Duh.   So stupid. What was I thinking?

And this wendell character clearly sucks....

Quote:<p style="font-size:12px;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;">Wendell produced an outstanding season in 2012, excelling as a run blocker and also displaying rare durability. His cumulative run blocking grade of +27.5
not only led all centers, but was third-best among all offensive linemen, trailing only Eagles guard Evan Mathis and San Francisco left tackle Joe Staley (ranked sixth and 16th, respectively, in PFF’s Top 101 of 2012). New England’s backs enjoyed their greatest success when running behind Wendell, averaging 4.7 and 4.8 yards per carry to either side of him.

Good info NYC4Jags on the Center. Definitely seems like a Caldwell type of pickup.

That said Id rather us leave edelman alone and find a big body at WR in the 6'3 or more range in the draft and let Ace develope into an Edelman clone with the new QB. No to Blount as well he is a role player and despite getting chances in his career has never really been a feature back type. Maybe he found something with NE but id rather continue the youth movement in full and find a young RB in the draft and see if Denard developes i the offseason.

Good find on the Center. IMO, there's no way we pay Mack the kind of money he'll want to come play Center in a ZBS. I think it would be a waste of resources, personally.

On Edleman, I think Mike Brown gives us the same qualities, maybe a notch below.

ZBS lineman can be found in the draft. MAYBE we can bring in one in FA but I would rather use that money to get Byrd. Earl Thomas is about to get paid because he makes that defense click. Byrd is the next best thing and would be worth every penny, because the FS is the most important cog when playing primarily Cover 1 and 3.

I don't like the idea of spending $9M for a guy who barely played last year due to a foot injury. Maybe a more realistic number.

Give me a whole bunch of veteran contributors who don't light the world on fire but don't cost much either and I'll take that over one or 2 big names.

Dude....Indy's defense stinks. They just gave up 40+ points in back to back playoff games. You are overselling Blount on his 4 TD game. It reminds me of James Stewart's 5 TD game against the Eagles back in 1997. It didn't mean that James Stewart was this emerging superstar, it was just a really good GAME against a bad defense. You need to understand what you are watching better. That 4 TD game is also probably going to jack up the market price for Blount. No thanks. Let some other SUCKER pay it.

Blount is a  "decent" RB, but will be 28 next season, and the Patriots use him as a role player/ cog for the most part. Last weeks game being the exception to the rule. The Patriots are very good with personnel usage. I think the Jags need a RB that has a higher ceiling than what Blount has. Blount is a guy thats good when you limit his carries to the 150-170 range, but he's not a RB that I'd want to count on for 250+ for a season. I'm not sold on Blount enough to go into a season with he and Todman as a tandem either.

I never said "Wendell sucks". More words in mouth. I would just like to do better. The Patriots won't let him walk scott-free as a FA if he's really anything of value.

Doesn't have a "cool" name, and even if he did... someone else came up with it first.

Others seem to like the Wendell as a Jaguar scenario as well.

I know you dont exist anymore but I had no idea Blount was 28. I thought he was younger than that.

Its easy for me to be a sucker and trash you on your opinions of hard nosed RB's, but ill fight that battle when you are recreated again.

Sorry if it's already been covered, but is NE likely to get rid of the center that's started their last 32 games?

Belichick is notorious for not giving big second contracts to the majority of his players  - so it's possible  - if Wendell and his agent are inclined to chase the dollar signs.
