Whisenhunt to Tennessee

Tennessee is in no position to compete for relevance for a very, very long time. They believe in Locker.

As said before, actions speak louder than early rhetoric....but the following is less of a ringing endorsement than you suggest...

per rotoworld:

New Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt offered tepid praise for Jake Locker at his introductory presser Tuesday, and said the team hasn't ruled out using the No. 11 overall pick on a quarterback.

Whisenhunt said he liked Locker coming out of college, but demurred on his pro game, saying he "really (hasn't) had a chance" to study Locker's tape. For what it's worth, ESPN's Ed Werder reports Whiz has a "favorable impression" of Locker. Either way, Locker is not going to be gifted the Titans' No. 1 job coming off another injury-marred campaign. Locker appeared to be making strides before going down this season, but was limited to 401 snaps. That's a small-sample size for a player who has always struggled with consistency.

Clearly Jake Locker is not Kurt Warner, so Whisenhunt may be in trouble.

And who is going to run the ball for the Titans? From everything I've read Tennessee is not going to retain Chris Johnson. Whisenhunt had a problem establishing a main man running back while in Arizona.

It may take a while.

Whisenhunt has a 45-51 record as a head coach with a total of two winning seasons.   OH THE HUMANITY!!!!

You know... I thought it'd have been funny if we had hired Dave Caldwell and Jim Caldwell.  And then went out and got Reche Caldwell.  >_>

Caldwell made a Super Bowl too ftr.  Sure it was with Peyton Manning, but Whisenhunt's was with Kurt Warner.  And look at what Arian's has done in Zona'.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

It makes me wonder who TMD is going to give most of the credit to for Arizona's success during that time...Whisenhunt or Warner.

It's a good illustration of how important it is to have a high caliber QB in place.  John Fox certainly looks like a much better Head Coach with Peyton Manning as his starting QB than was the case in the Carolina Panthers 2-14 season,  back in 2010.

Bullseye,  thanks for providing the link to this article.

Considering everything that transpired the last couple of days with Ken Whisenhunt ending up in Tennessee instead of Detroit,  it's good to read another perspective about Whisenhunt as a Head Coach.

While Whisenhunt could end up having major success in Tennessee,  the only realistic way this will happen is if that franchise gets their QB situation stabilized in a meaningful positive way.

although I agree that Warner played the biggest role in getting them to the SB, Leinart comes across as bitter in that interview, makes me question how much of it is true

Agreed he does seem embittered.

However, unlike many instances, here we have direct "testimony" from someone who was there who has the knowledge to properly apportion credit, as opposed to merely speculating who had what influence.

You are more than welcome, D6.

As to your closing line, hopefully that NEVER comes to fruition.

one thing is for sure, if you don't have at least an average QB you don't stand a chance in this league, that's why I don't understand why some were so frustrated with Fisch

He didn't have an average QB, OL, receivers or RB for much of the time here.

I'm still willing to see what he can do with more talent at his disposal.

With all that said, he was very creative and somehow made the worst offense in the league slightly intriguing.  I can't wait to see where he'll take us.

Whiz just admitted on NFL Network that he doesn't know a lot about Jake Locker, yet he accepted the job.  Clearly, there has to be some other incentives -- $$$ -- for him to accept the job in Tenn over Detroit.

I was skeptical about Fisch until after the Rams game.

Alfie broke down the coaches film and showed how receivers were wide open through the Rams secondary.  There were a lot of yards and points left on the field against a pretty good defense.

We just didn't have guys who could execute the plan.

Later in the year, we got glimpses of what could happen when the team is comfortable with the scheme.  I can only imagine how it will be with better talent (dang it Blackmon...stay your butt on the field and out of trouble/suspension!!!).

Couldn't agree with you more, next year should be fun!

me too, thought he did just OK with talent that we had, but too hard to tell when talent is lacking to this extent

He is. I thought for sure that the Titans would screw this up.

Wow. the NFL must really want the Jaguars to fail in Jax. This AFC South between Luck, O Brien and now Whisenhunt is like a murderers row. It might be setting up for the best those 3 franchises have ever been "simultaneously" in the history of the AFC South.

Glad we got the Bradley/ Fisch / Babich trifecta to counter what they got....lol....

So what you are saying is Khan did not have a choice in who he hired? The NFL is rigged?
