I've seen a couple people mention Wisconsin RB James White. I have to pass on James White. I don't think he will be much in the NFL. When John Clay left, it was suppose to become the James White show, but he quickly became the 2nd option behind Montee Ball. When Montee Ball left, it could have been the James White show, but he once again finds himself the 2nd best RB on the Badger's depth chart.

 

Wisconsin is Running Back U. No college in the nation has had running backs put up the numbers Wisconsin running backs have been putting up for the past 20 years. None. None of those running backs have gone one to be above average NFL backs, though.

That being said, I think Melvin Gordon breaks the trend. Whether he goes this year or next year, I think he becomes a top 20 NFL back.

I'm not talking colleges the pump out NFL stars. I am talking about running backs that had elite college careers. Wisconsin is at the top of the list for running backs college careers over the past 20 years.

 

Did you even read my post? My point was that

2) They fizzle in the NFL

 

And I also said the past 20 years, so naming guys like Herschel Walker, Earl Campbell, O.J. Simpson, Bo Jackson, etc. is irrelevant.

At the very least I'd put Miami, Texas and Georgia ahead of them.

 

Also, to claim something such as "Running Back U", it is something that has to be done consistently over time. Not a 10-20 year period. Wisconson has been pretty good at RB but nothing close to RB U.

I watch a lot of big Badger games and Melvin Gordon is the real deal, he's in the same mold as a Jamaal Charles/Chris Johnson. He's firmly positioned (imo) in the 2nd round but can easily go in the 1st.

In the past 20 years, Wisconsin has had a 1,000 in 18 season. In the past 20 years, Georgia has had 4 seasons with a 1,000 yard rusher.

 

Let's compare the best single seasons:

Montee Ball (2011) 1,923 yards rushing 33 TDs vs Todd Gurley (2012) 1,385 yards rushing 17 TDs

Since 1993, Georgia's highest single season rushing leader is Moreno (2008) with 1,400. Wisconsin has had 14 single season rushers over 1,400.
