MMQBSI Draft Grades

WalterFootball was enthusiastic in their praise of our draft thus far.

All valid points with legitimate concerns both from an athletic and depth standpoint. None of these picks fills a need like the TE or OL, but the value was there. Clearly, the FO went BAP. Will it workout? Just like in any draft, grades are meaningless. Only time will tell.

i saw that its only a 1.6 mil penalty to release one of those two safeties, I don't remember which. So his point about them being signed beyond 2020 is misleading.
With Deon Cain falling, I feel like we might have been able to wait for him over Chark, and taken an O-linemen in the 2nd.
Still, hard to hate the Ronnie Harrison pick. Seems like Peter King is a big fan of Needs drafting. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

So his point about them being signed beyond 2020 is misleading. You are thinking of Tashaun Gipson. He would have $1.6 million in dead money if cut next year. However, he also has a salary over $9 million. As such, when you do the math, cutting him would save the Jaguars over $7.4 million off the salary cap next year. He's definitely a candidate to be a salary cap casualty. Barry Church has a salary over $6 million in 2019 with no dead money if we cut him. He's also currently 30 years old. Again, another candidate to be a salary cap casualty in 2019. While safety isn't a need for the 2018 team, it definitely could help us with our salary cap position in 2019 and beyond assuming the guy we took is capable of being a legitimate starter. |
