Who will be available in the second round?
|
As one of five 4-12 teams, the Jaguars have the seventh pick in Round 2 (39 overall) because of the NFL's rotation rule. That scares me because it means we are not as likely to get a first round talent as we were last year. The last time we had that pick, it was Eben Britton, who did not meet our expectations. Can we pick a better player in May without trading up? That is what I am hoping.
So I want to know who has a good chance of falling to #39, but would not be a reach in the first round. In other words who might go to either a playoff team in Round 1 or a 4-12 team in Round 2? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I'm hoping for WR DeVante Adams or TE Troy Niklas, but Niklas might be a little bit of a reach there. I just am not sure that Niklas will be there at our 3rd rounder.
Quote:I agree that is a good time to pick a tight end if we don't reach for one. But how tight is too tight? Quote:I'm not much of a tight end guy, I'm move of a receiver type. So you must hate what Bill Belichick is doing. He uses two-tight end sets more than any other coach. Do you know any first round wide receivers who might drop to #39?
I like the idea of Niklas especially if the Texans do take Clowney. He is the best blocking TE (and a good receiver don't worry) and an absolute mountain at a thickly built 6' 7''. Having 2 TE sets with Marcedes and Niklas both being phenomenal blocking TE to help our tackles against Clowney/Watt would neutralize them very well.
Profiting by Teddy falling to 3 while also neutralizing the Texans first overall pick with a monster blocking TE sure would be hilarious if it happened like that. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Thats a really good point.....and something to take note of if it happens to play out the opposite, too.....with us getting Clowney and them getting Niklas.

You said #39 would be a reach, so if the Texans pick Niklas, it would be in the third round. I don't know if they need a guy like him or not.
I think pick 39 will come down to a pass rusher or one of the 1st round talent receivers who fall due to this stocked class. Vic Beasly, Jeremiah Attaochu, Brandin Cooks, Jordan Matthews, or if you want a TE who is a receiving threat, Austin Seferian-Jenkins

Would we be lucky if he falls to #39? Vic Beasley will not be available in any round. He is staying in school.
I think ASJ will end up being the best TE of the class. I'd love to see him end up here in the 2nd. Wish we could trade Marcedes for a 4th if we did that.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
With our extra 4th and 5th round picks, I'm thinking this may be a good opportunity to trade back up a few spots for some guys that slip to day 2. Or we could even trade back into the first if we have our sights set on someone.

I'd rather keep Marcedes as well. 2 TE sets with ASJ+Marcedes with Shorts and Blackmon/Ace would be deadly. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

The best trade up in Round 2 would be with the Redskins at #34, but they probably would say no because they don't pick in the first round, making the Browns at #35 more likely to happen. I would love that trade no matter who we pick in Round 2. Quote:We already have an extra fourth round pick. I don't think it would be too expensive unless everyone and their mom is trying to trade there.

It would cost more than that for #34, obviously, but I agree that is a fair trade for #35. |
