Norwell and Dareus on Top 20 bloated Contracts
|

Norwell #6 Dareus #4 Quoted from the author "By Year 3, the contract was underwater and Beane had to foist off Dareus on the Jaguars for a sixth-round pick, where he failed to make much of an impact before racking up two sacks during the postseason." Not sure what the exact numbers were but we went from nearly last place in stopping the run to nearly 1st place... so this claim is completely false. We show less advertisements to registered users. This defense rely's on big bodies up front absorbing all comers and allow the smaller quick LB's to wreak havoc. His overall worth will not show up on the stat sheet under his name but look under Jack's and Smith's.
Original Season Ticket Holder - Retired 1995 - 2020
At some point you just have to let go of what you thought should happen and live in what is happening.
As the Jags did not have to take on any of the signing bonus amortization, the Dareus's deal with the Jags is not bad. The Jags have about $7.3m in guaranteed money (and a $10.2m cap figure) this year. After this season, there is no dead cap ramifications if let go, and is signed for $10.5m if they keep him.
It is a lot of money for a guard, but the Jags only have guaranteed money on his deal for the first 2 seasons. He's a pro-bowler and only 26 years old. For a team that wants to build an identity as a run first team, it's an expensive but likely wise investment. Hopefully, Norwell's level of play remains high. In either event, such a take earns an "Egads!" award for promulgating ignorance. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

Dareus single-handily transformed our run defense. He's totally overlooking that part of it.
Meanwhile, Norwell's not even over-paid. Sure he was the #1 free agent and paid like it, but he's worth that contract because he was legitimately the #1 interior OL in the league. There's no bloating there.

Lol ... so, before we had Dareus, when we gave up 256 rushing yards to the Jets backup RBs (163 to Bilal Powell and 93 to Elijah McGuire) they are basically stating the level of difficulty was very high. I truly believe the acquisition of Dareus was the difference in at least 1 or more victories, which ultimately lead us to winning the Division and hosting a playoff game. That, in itself, resulted in a solid return on investment. (07-19-2018, 09:02 PM)HURRICANE!!!
