Someone should start a topic on the ratio of foot size to height and how it pertains to balance and stability. Balance and stability being important to throwing a football especially on the run. Does this ratio also contribute to a player's mobility, agility and elusiveness?

 

LOL I was thinking about something else - center of gravity, which is at the heart in males - causing Eric Decker to fall when he leaned forward while running. Someone else shot down that idea though so I am not going to start a thread about balance/stability issues.

Guys, the worry with small hands isn't fumbles. The problem is the greater the angle of trajectory the harder it is to keep a good grip on the ball all the way through the throw. Essentially, it's hard to keep a tight spiral and have good accuracy on deep balls if you have small hands.

 

Now, is it just a coincidence that Teddy's main weakness is his deep ball accuracy, or does he really have small hands? We'll find out soon enough.

Well, I can give you 2 examples that play this out....

 

Byron Leftwich was huge at 6' 5" and 240, but had tiny feet, especially in proportion to his body (size 8). We saw how clumsy he was and I am sure the small feel were a contributor to that. 

 

Johnny Manziel, OTOH, is relatively small per NFL QB standards, at 6', 200 ish, but has giant size 15 feet, which are huge in proportion to his body...His body control and elusiveness are top notch. Corrolation? I'd say so.

I wouldn't say the blanket statement of the first sentence. QB with small hands generally do tend to fumble more. Now maybe what you should be saying above is the "biggest worry" with small hands isn't fumbles, since you also brought forth something that could be of more importance.

We disagree on a lot of things. This is not one of them.

 

Like I said earlier, how a quarterback holds the ball is also an issue when talking about deep ball accuracy. I think having small hands can affect that.
