Jalen Ramsey Suspended for One Week (Update: Fowler Suspended too)

#61

I don't like social media.... #getoffmylawn I don't understand the incessant need to video everything either. Oh well all this stuff isn't for fossilized fans like me. Thanks to everyone for all the good explanations.

I'm with Jalen here, no need to film that crap and put it out there. Personally I'd wish they'd ban all social media during the season for players. Just seems risky.

You must not remember the Coughlin Years. I'm not saying Marrone wouldn't do the same thing but we know Coughlin would.

Of course I do but, for people to think that Coughlin is running this team alone is downright disrespectful to the current coaching staff.

Exactly. His track record speaks for itself. He’ll suspend/cut a player in a heartbeat no matter what your status is. Andre Rison, Ferric Collons and maybe even Leonard Fournette knows well.

People may think it’s excessive but it has to be done. No one is above the team. IF we are to win it all this year our focus should be just that, not some butt hurt media war with a newspaper guy or a fight with your own teammate. Finish the play and let that [BLEEP] go. No reason to continue it later on after practice.

Maybe a trade for Khalil Mack involving Donte Fowler Jr. isn't as far-fetched as I thought? I guess it depends upon how much cap the Jaguars want to leave alone and/or project to be available.

We could trade Fowler for Mack plus a juicy 2019 draft pick. I do think Oakland is rumored to want two first rounders. Fowler did have a number of sacks last year. So a trade might not be as far-fetched. I think I would want Mack on the Jaguars roster long-term and not a single-season deal.

That said the Sunday antics are unacceptable.

Blaming Tom Coughlin is a crock. You blame Tom for this because you don't like him.

If anything, Doug Marrone may have fanned the flames for the Ramsey suspension. When he was asked during Saints post-game by the media bout the "protesters in the tunnel", Doug said that he did not know what had happened until the PR guy informed him on the way to the post-game, and seemed to suggest he was leaving it up to the four players to answer to the press.

Naturally, the reports about players staying in the tunnel or locker room were really not necessary. The NFL and the NFLPA need to jointly recognize that pro football has lots of enemies out there. There are organized forces every year seeking to drag down the league using a variety of convoluted issues. Most all issues have a multi-million dollar tax exempt entitlement behind them. They aren't hurting for financial support and rarely do a dang thing for the citizens they claim to represent. I would advise any player to dig deep before he associates his name with them.

I don't know how accurate my observation was, but during the Saint's game a Jaguars defender made a late hit out of bounds. From the TV view, it appeared that Ramsey was one of a number of players on the side line, who were expressing their feelings to the penalized team mate.

Ngakoue getting after Fowler, Jr. was the exact kind of thing. Nobody should have anything negative to say about Yannick at all. You can bet that Yannick was being professional all the way and Fowler over-reacted in a way similar to throwing a guy's groceries into the drink.

Training camp fights are no big deal although it's not ideal when 2 players from the same position group are the one having a problem with each other

That said, the fact that Tom Coughlin was right there watching it happen and Ngakoue wasn't suspended is telling of who the trouble maker was in the first place: Fowler.

About Ramsey, he just can't keep his mouth shut even on social media at times, I can see what he meant and I sort of understand him but if you have a problem with someone (in this case the reporter) go tell him, don't sort of "threaten" him by tweeting it out lol.

Good to see the team taking actions right away to set the tone early.

First, staying in the locker room during the national anthem........then this. Ramsey is full of himself. I see major problems down the road for him and a couple of other players on this team. Did he graduate from college? His writing skills look more like a third grader to me.

Anything else to add other than questioning the intelligence of these players? Or are you just going to continue adding nothing to the conversation?

Lol

Ramsey isn’t going anywhere. He’s sticking up for his teammates and he’s the best corner in the league. Do you really care about his writing skills? If so, why?

This team plays with emotion, passion and swagger. They thrive on it. And now, some of you don’t like it? The whole situation got emotional and it was taken too far. Move on.

This was nothing until the threatening social media tone. The Skins-Jets brawl made this incident look like a pillow fight.

So what we have learned over the years. Fowler is a terrible human always looking for a fight.

Come on man, there is always going to be altercations in training camp, let's not make a mountain out of a molehill.
We have great leadership from veterans and there is no reason to even bring up the subject of whether the team is grounded.

I don't think he is a terrible human, but yes he does have anger issues.

I honestly think Fowler is jealous of the way the team and the city has embraced Ngakoue. When Yannick tried to be a leader and talk to Fowler about his conduct on the field, he wasn't having it and the envy he felt for Ngakoue spilled out in the form of anger. I honestly believe that since he was a high draft pick, Dante feels like he should automatically be a leader and be loved by the franchise. There are some players that are like this. Yes, Fowler is productive, but when he is fighting with his own teammates, the writing is on the wall. I truly believe we could flip him for a 2nd round pick at the lowest, maybe a first.

Wow.

I never was a Fowler fan, I felt he only had a speed rush coming out of college and any time an Oline man locked up with him he never showed the power to dive the man back toward the QB. I for one would not be against trading him if we could get a high draft pick. He has been somewhat of a cancer on the team and out in public so yes I would consider a trade if one was available.

That reporter was simply doing his job. There was no justification for Ramsey’s attacks. When we let the players decide what can and can’t be communicated to the public we start down a very slippery slope. Ramsey is getting support simply because he’s a “ star “ player. I don’t play that sycophant game.

Going to be an interesting 2018 season when all that energy is channeled towards opponents.....starting with giants and new england
People trying express via social media can sometimes go so wrong.....many should just stay away from it.
Don't some of these guys actually go to English class in college?
Because Jaguars is our mantra  Wallbash

I don't see any issue with him staying in the tunnel. Heck, he's actually staying within the rules by doing so unlike other protesters who are holding fists up and practically promoting violence as their means to protest violence. Those dimwits are publically disrespecting the flag, and why? If their issue is so huge, where were their protests throughout the offseason? At any rate, if you must protest, do it by staying off the field and not disrespecting the flag.  In my book, Ramsey should be praised here for setting a good example.

Nobody is bigger than the team. They showed this last year when Fournette decided to miss or show up late to a team photo shoot. If you don't hold your players accountable and hold them to a set of standards it'll just breed and enable more bad behavior down the road.

With that said. I'll be glad when this team moves on from Fowler. He's becoming a cancer. This all started because he got his panties in a twist over Ngakoue. It's not Ngakoue's fault that he's not playing at his level or better than him. Spoiled [BLEEP] punk. And based on no actions being taken against Ngakoue it's pretty obvious who started it and instigated it. He's a hot head. Needs to go.
