So Andrew Luck is just above-average

Quote:Without Mathis, Luck would still win games. Without Luck, Mathis would not win as many games. That's not the point. I'm not arguing that QB isn't more important the DE. Although, DE is the second most important position. Considering Mathis's impact on the QB position, his performance directly influenced the outcome of games. The point I'm trying to make here is that Mathis did affect the outcome. Since he (and others) have affected the outcome of games, it's disingenuous to argue that the 11-5 record is a result of Luck's mediocre performance.
Quote:Did I say Chad Henne was better...?. Wilson/Newton over Luck? lol
Poor Colts fans having to watch Manning in the Superbowl.
So if manning wins multiple superbowls as a bronco...is he inducted as a bronco? Quote:Poor Colts fans having to watch Manning in the Superbowl. Inducted where? The HOF? You aren't inducted as part of a team. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Inducted where? The HOF? You aren't inducted as part of a team. Usually you are listed under a team in the HOF. Seems he may just be listed as both as his primary team. I mean if Peyton would have retired after that neck surgery he still would have been in the hall of fame. So it doesn't really matter I guess.

Course I 'spose Colts are hoping Luck wins multiple Super Bowls or bust

Quote:Agreed. King's ransom instead of Luck, minus Richardson, plus Peyton = Championship. Course I 'spose Colts are hoping Luck wins multiple Super Bowls or bust You do realize Colts would also probably be without Mathis, Freeney, Wayne, & others as well, right?
Quote:You're trying too hard. You don't think Manning is an upgrade on Luck? Manning makes any team a superbowl contender We show less advertisements to registered users. Had they held on to Manning and drafted a defensive impact player instead of Luck, they'd be in much better position. If I were the Colts, I'd probably have done that too (in hindsight, of course.) Manning still has something left in the tank. They cut bait just a bit too soon, IMO. The bottoming out of the division around them makes them appear better positioned than they are. They'd be far better with Manning and a stud devensive player instead of just Luck.

Quote:The boys on the show formerly known as SFR brought up a good point this morning. For right now that's true. How true it will be in the long term will be determined by where Luck's ceiling is. If he stays a guy whose most dangerous weapon is running for 3rd down conversions until he finally gets a knee destroyed then you'll probably be right in the long run, too. Of course, if Luck turns into a 35TD a year guy that wins games with his arm instead of by running he could end up the better option over the long term.
Quote:You don't think Manning is an upgrade on Luck? Absolutely. The thing is this team wouldn't have any where near the pieces it has now (and we still have a lot of holes). There would be even more holes, including those "old regime players that carried us" according to you. In the long run, the Colts are WAY better off with Luck and honestly I don't think it's even close. I think most (about 90%+) Colts fans would agree. Quote:For right now that's true. How true it will be in the long term will be determined by where Luck's ceiling is. With three teams hitting bottom around them and in a position to turn around, I see those odds getting longer and longer by the day. They seem to have missed the launch window, and are giving the other teams a chance to bounce back as quickly as they did. It's not getting any easier than it was for them this season.

You also have to take into account that they would have had to sign Peyton to a $100 million dollar contract.
Would they be better with Peyton right now? Of course. But Peyton only has 3 or 4 years left.
Quote:With three teams hitting bottom around them and in a position to turn around, I see those odds getting longer and longer by the day. It's not about what the teams around them do. If Luck is a Peyton Manning level QB then they'll be competing for a Superbowl for the next 15 years. If he's not then they won't. Wildcard teams can win now, they don't have to win the AFCS just to have a shot.
Quote:The boys on the show formerly known as SFR brought up a good point this morning. I completely disagree. Manning came off a serious neck injury. The Colts organization did the right thing, ensuring they would not be hamstrung on Manning's ability to heal and return form. That is too big of a gamble. Only in hindsight, after he has healed and proven that he can still play do we now see that he does something in the tank However, Manning will be 38 years old in March of 2014. He is clearly not getting younger. Also, if he wins another one, what more would he have left to prove? He will be without a doubt the GOAT at the QB position. The Colts did the right thing, and drafted Luck. They will continue to have a very successful franchise and be in the playoffs perennially. If they can build the defense up and shore up the weapons on offense they will greatly increase their chances of hanging around in the post season, and possibly going to the Superbowl. The Colts have long-term sustained success in mind, and I will take that any day of the week. The idea they should have stuck with Manning, who not only suffered a very serious neck injury, but also appeared to be healing very slowly; is very short sighted. The Broncos on the other hand just got lucky, their fortunes could have obviously been the complete opposite. The Colts did the smart thing and went with a young, ascending player, who has shown already the ability to bring the team sustained success, and the potential to bring a SB with a better surrounding cast.. |
