Jaguars have the #1 pass defense

Telvin Smith has been a better run defender than a pass defender even though his frame would lead a layman to believe the opposite is true. He’s been consistently one of the best, if not the best, run defender on the Jags roster and in the NFL. https://twitter.com/PFF_Jaguars/status/9...52704?s=20 To be fair, I don’t know what he would rate this year but the Jaguars have seemingly bigger problems to worry about. It's interesting how he's so terrible in pass coverage given he's the fastest linebacker in the league. That's just knowing where to be, really no excuse for it. Sounds like he might be hungover on walkthroughs on Saturday's not paying attention. Nah... 2017 Telvin was awesome. 2018 Telvin isn't awesome. I think this team's issue right now is discipline and (MAYBE) a lack of leadership. It seems like we don't have great fortitude. When we're losing, they don't have the ability to overcome it.
Defense is great enough to win offense needs to actually look like it functions like one.
No Fun

Jacobs looks the part but hasn't played that impressively. We're probably missing Poz more than anyone would have guessed. Having him on the field was probably hiding the lack of physicality in our other linebackers.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

His ability to get off blocks isn't where it needs to be though and his instincts aren't there yet either. The thing about Poz was he knew where the run was going almost every time so he didn't really need to get off as many blocks as Jack does. I often said that the rest of the defense should just follow Poz where ever he heads to on his run fits We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
The Jaguars and their once-dominant pass rush could use a bit of good fortune. Yannick Ngakoue has only five sacks on 16 knockdowns, 2.2 sacks below that 45 percent expectation. Malik Jackson has only one on eight knockdowns. Blake Bortles might be permanently on the fritz, but it's reasonable to expect more out of Jacksonville's expensively assembled pass rush in the second half.

Checkdowns/shallow routes and pass pro is where we utilize TEs The dropoff from ASJ to what we have now is glaring. It doesnt show up in the stats, but the TE position in this scheme is significant from a utility perspective.
Not just ASJ, but could you imagine having Lewis this year? Man it'd be nice to be able to line him up next to our LT.

They're now saying that Smoot will be used more with Fowler gone.

I don't know how many times this has to be said before people finally let it click: Taven Bryan and Dante Fowler do not play the same position. Bryan is a big end/tackle hybrid like Calais Campbell. Dante Fowler is a pass rusher like Yannick Ngakoue. The guy who's going to get reps in place of Fowler is Lerentee McCray, who's seen spot duty as a pass rusher before and has gotten some good pressure in the role. The quickest pass rushers are often not the biggest guys. You want a "big end" on the strong side vs the TE so your "LEO" can get the passer. And don't tell me we don't have a LEO... we're just now calling him the RDE.

You do not need to pass the ball you can run and be successful.
Did Luck get sacked once? Yeah Fowler was the weak link on that line for sure.

The fall-off was been at d-tackle. Plus, Fowler didn't do anything in last week's Rams game. Haven't seen any highlights from the current game. The line wasn't bad at all. We could throw in a blitz once in while... ![]() Fix the O-Line!

We may as well not have had one the past few seasons. Smh. We have only seen 5% of the playbook because we don't have a NFL QB. They did say Smith has messed up shoulders so that is significant but the defense just lost out on those passing defense stats Disaster of a year.

And he still didn't do anything here this year. I'm happy with the two picks. ![]() Fix the O-Line!
