Mystery MAN @ QB

(This post was last modified: 01-08-2014, 01:56 AM by SpringfieldJag.)

He might be injured. And he might not be able to show off in shorts at the NFL Combine – something I feel is way over-valued these days (though according to some UGA beat writers he may be able to hold private workouts with teams in April). But what I saw of Murray ON THE FIELD this season leads me to believe he’ll be a mid round steal for whoever drafts him

That would be a good 3-4th rounder if we don't pick anyone in the 1st 2 rounds.

No such thing as a steal at QB when the upside is quality backup or at best QB purgatory. Only reason to grab him is to hope he gets some Cousins type hype at some point and you can trade him for a profit without having to expose him on the field like the Skins did.

And I have grown weary of QB purgatory.

Mett might be a good choice if we draft Clowney, Mack or Watson in the 1st.

Yeah I wouldn't mind this at all might even be able take him in the third or trade back up into the second for him

I agree with the sentiment.

Murray will be a great pick for someone that takes him in the late 3rd/ early 4th. Hope its us.

But I preface this by saying that I'd select Murray after also selecting another QB. I want 2 from this offseason. One starter and one developmental prospect.

I probably wouldn't draft him.

He's small and he's just average on 3rd down passing with as many weapons as anyone in the country.  He doesn't have any real flaws or anything, but he just screams high-end career backup to me.  I see him as a Chad Henne.

Chad Henne is not a high end career backup.

Ok, decent career backup.  Semantics.

Liking him more with one of the 4th round picks...could be a steal!

That's a fine plan...but why in the world would you want Murray as a developmental prospect? We have seen his best, and it's good backup QB/emergency starter. If you're taking a developmental guy then you grab someone who can actually develop into something potentially special like Logan Thomas. Not an undersized, underarmed, 4 year starter who fails both the upside and the over experienced tests. Same exact argument can be said for McCarron.

But not your crush that you've been pimping all season long.

Gotcha.

Why don't people understand this? It's like trying to get a high quality meal off of the 99 cent McDonalds menu.

Hmm, I am the one who takes flack for using the QB purgatory word too much. I am pretty sure I haven't espoused the Jags taking anyone who fits under that definition, much less pimp one.

You've only espoused the Jags taking a single QB - your favorite - who also stands as much a chance of putting us in "QB purgatory" as Byron did.

And believe me, he did.

The problem with "Bridgewater or Bust", is that it is a bias to only one selection.  I don't think Murray's the answer either, but the problem I've had with the Bridgewater crew is that they think Teddy's the ONLY answer.  Maybe, but I doubt it.  The post is about Murray, but the standard BoB answer remains the same for Carr, Manziel, McCarron, or Mettenberger.  If it's not Teddy, it's QB purgatory.  Hey, you guys are in love, and that's cool and all, but love has a bad habit of making you blind.

My humble suggestion:  watch the Senior Bowl with open eyes.  Check out the combine numbers.  Ultimately, remember that the team has access to far more information than the general public.  If after all this, the team takes Teddy, I'm fine with it.  But dismissing all other QBs as pretenders at this point is kinda foolish.

You haven't paid attention to any of my posts then if you really think I am a Teddy or bust guy...good try though.
