Outside of each first round selection being an offensive lineman, no.  I don't see the similarities.

 

Plus, Gene threw away a future second round pick for a guy that was drafted in the third round...who is no longer on the team.  Given Caldwell has beat his "the more picks, the better" philosophy into the ground, I seriously doubt anything like that would happen with this regime.

 

I'll start believing that so called philosophy when we actually get solid value from a solid trade down as a result from it.

Matthews a lot like expected. Gets off the jam great and gets initial space very well, but doesn't have separation speed in the intermediate or downfield quadrants. Also too many easy drops. Still looks like a late 2nd/3rd rounder in this awesome class. 

 

Herron and Huff have been the real stars at WR this week, although Herron has dropped a lot of easy ones too. Mike Davis has had the best separation/deep skills this week but if he isn't running a 9 route he looks lost. Might be worth a late rounder as a pure field stretcher like TY Hilton was until this year...except not like Hilton in that he's obviously a lot bigger and wouldn't want him 3rd round.

We've all forgot about interior lineman TMD. So probably almost assuredly the front office has as well. The FO will only draft skill players this year I can feel it in my bones. That's just something this team does.

Martin has short arms but would be an all pro guard from what I've seen. He kicked inside to block Aaron Donald a few times today and dominated him, which is the only person along with Richburg who can say that. I don't know where Richburg will go but he looks like a nice day 3 center candidate for sure.

Long arms are needed by Tackles to get the initial punch on a defensive end to knock them off course. Guards deal with more bullrush type moves and so don't need the extra reach.

Yes, ideally you want 34"+ arms for an OT. Martin's are just over 32", which is why a lot of people think he'll have to move from LT to OG or C.

aside from Stork and the others mentioned, I havent heard of many mid round interior linemen by name. Just have heard and get the impression that there is a lot of good talent to be had from rounds 4-6

Carr, Matthews, Hoffman, and Mike Davis staying late after practice again to work on routes and timings. All 3 days Carr and Matthews have stayed out, with Hoffman and Davis twice now. No one else on either squad has stayed late.

I think if we can get him in here with one of our later picks he'll be pretty good. He has great body control, as KYJaggy mentioned he made a nice high point catch yesterday and he's made those kind of catches throughout the last couple years at Bama.
