Mystery MAN @ QB

#21

Quote:I probably wouldn't draft him.

He's small and he's just average on 3rd down passing with as many weapons as anyone in the country.  He doesn't have any real flaws or anything, but he just screams high-end career backup to me.  I see him as a Chad Henne.

Which weapons did he have?  UGA had a ton of injuries.

Huh

Yeah. Teddy is the top guy but you just want a qb who can be the guy. Pretty much the same stance as most of the "teddy or bust" guys.

Quote:That's a fine plan...but why in the world would you want Murray as a developmental prospect? We have seen his best, and it's good backup QB/emergency starter.

You don't know that, so why do you just assert things as if asserting them will immediately make them true?

I tend to agree that I wouldn't draft Murray before the 5th round or so, but the reason is different.

I have to agree with kyjaggy, Murray will be a good back up qb! Franchise qbs make the players around him that much better. Murray from every Georgia game I've watched is not a franchise qb but a solid back up in the nfl

Just read your Senior Bowl posts, and I gotta say they seem pretty balanced and open-minded.  I have a limited amount of time to read stuff and reply around here.

You might wanna lose your Teddy-the-tank-engine avatar if you want to be taken more seriously, though.  And I never saw anything in the other thread that made me think Bridgewater still isn't your favorite.

Murray is is 6'0 200 lbs has a weak arm and is not mobile, the guy is a career backup, he will never be a starter in the NFL outside of the starter getting hurt, teams  with Vet proven starters will look to draft him.

In fact, we have already had this conversation before...right around a month ago haha.

Quote:He's been stalking me commenting on almost every QB post that I make. Somehow he thinks because I have a Teddy picture I'm somehow blind to any and every QB except Teddy, which I've proven over and over isn't true. I just don't want an average, game managing, Dalton/Schaub/Ponder/Fitzpatrick/etc, QB purgatory...and that is what I deem Kirk Cousins to be also.

It's basically like saying because you have a Sean Connery picture that you refuse to like or watch any movie that has any actor except for Connery. Quite silly huh.

To expound some, I want Teddy, Carr, or Bortles out of this draft (if Blake declares), because those are the 3 QBs that I have evaluated and judged to have legitimate 50/50 or better franchise QB potential. I think Boyd, Manziel, Mettenberger, Hundley, and Garoppolo have roughly a 10-20% chance of being franchise QBs. I think Murray, McCarron, and Fales are quality backup QBs in the NFL.

Quote:There are movies that don't star Sean Connery?

Edit:  And for the record, I think we'll get Bortles, Manziel, Carr, or yes, Bridgewater.  And I'm on board with whoever we draft over Cousins.

And as I mentioned before, I'm even on board with picking a guy like Carr or Bridgewater and going back for a guy like McCarron in the 2nd, just to cover all the bases.

So the avatar is here to stay, huh?

Bummer.

Edit:  and for the record, is there a QB in this draft other than Bridgewater that won't put us in "QB purgatory?"  I know you said Bortles and Carr are acceptable, but will we avoid "purgatory?"

That's the question that GMs and entire scouting staffs have to answer for the sake of their jobs. Personally, I think Teddy, Carr, and Bortles are better than 50/50, which is actually solid odds historically. I would actually put Teddy at probably 65-70%. Manziel, Garoppolo, and Brett Smith are in the 20% range to me. Mettenberger and Fales are like 10%, and Logan Thomas and Boyd are like 5%. I don't think any other QBs have the upside to break past the QB purgatory level even at their best.
