I go back to my same question from before: who replaces him? Coughlin has final say. That means we wouldn't have a chance of grabbing a promising young exec off another team, and I can't imagine many unemployed GM candidates would want to be a glorified scout. Promoting a Caldwell lieutenant wouldn't be any better than promoting Gene Smith was, so why bother? Either dump him and let Coughlin be the GM in practice and in title if you want to go that route, or just let him keep scouting.

Give a young up and comer a shot. Someone who is hungry. They are out there.

I just don't see any gm signing Bortles unless it's the veteran minimum or dumb enough to trade for him. He's terrible. If I had a choice of a backup, henne or Bortles, I'd choose henne

The Coughlin dynamic is problematic as well. If he is responsible for drafting Fournette, he should be relieved of his duties.

But who and from where? That's the issue. Without giving the new guy final say, we're not going to get someone from another team, and that's where the promising up and comers are. Unless Coughlin really believes in Chris Polian, which wouldn't surprise me too much, I just don't see the benefit in firing your head scout.
