In late December Pence and others had worked out a deal for a CR to last until the beginning February it passed the Senate.  https://www.federaltimes.com/management/...-february/

It had overwhelming support in the senate but included no wall funding.  Rush Limbaugh and Coulter panned the deal.  Trump unfollowed Coulter then backed out of the deal.  This led the country down the path of a ridiculous shutdown.  He is over and over again in his presidency chose to placate the most extreme elements of his base than try to form a consensus, he is so scared of losing their support. Every Pol with a brain told him how this would end but Trump being Trump, you know his gut tells him more than anybody’s brain ever could had to touch the stove and get burned.  Point is that he doesn’t seem to understand that the wall is unpopular amongst the whole electorate, everyone has heard the arguments for it, and because he has very little credibility it’s highly unlikely it will change with his persuasion.

THis is a wrap, he’s not gonna win this argument, most minds are made up he has a choice between two bowls of booboo, no wall and he can claim he increased the funding for border security or claim the fixes to existing walls are his wall or he can offer up DACA, TPS and then some and completely bewilder a chunk or his base, if he’s smart he choose the later and attempt to tack back to the middle while getting something he can call his wall.  But Trump being Trump and Stephen Miller still being in the WH I doubt it.  Also he can get kicked  by the Mule twice and attempt to shut down the government again. FYI I love my country like I love my kids, doesn’t change whenthey do something that upsets me.  And let me leave you with this nugget.

Your problem is that you look at border security as an "argument".

Your problem is that you demagogue the discussion as a choice between two extremes, black and white, when in reality the solution lies in the middle and is very much gray.

So what is the solution?  Drones and "technology"?

I’m no expert but there are many things that would accomplish border security cheaper and more effectively than a mere wall. More scanning equipment at ports of entry, drones for sure, more border agents, more immigration judges, aid to Central American countries, better technology for communication and coordination and things like e-verify.

But that's just it. You, nor I are experts, BUT, the actual experts say we need a barrier. I'm not talking about the politician experts who have never earned an honest days pay in their adulthood. I'm taking about actual border agents who say we need it.

The democrats only wanted common sense border policies when it wasn't Donald Trump suggesting them.

You mean like the Border Patrol agents who just demonstrated for (I believe it was) Trump why a wall wouldn't work in their sector?

We know, we know. Technology scares Trumpettes. The actual experts say we need a mixture of methods.

Just curious what two geriatrics definition of technology is, since they are so in tune with what is happening at the border. Maybe you could elaborate? Such an easy term to throw around.

Except both of your examples did not include a Border Agent stating walls don’t work. In fact, you just offered proof that they do.

Example #1: Illegal activity funneled/forced through Port of Entry at a sector that has a wall.

Example #2: The wall slowed down trafficking long enough to have patrols get into position to survey, record, and then apprehend. Proof activity was against asylum claims and returning them back to where they came from.

I watched Trump from the border actually talking to border agents about if a wall will work. Every one of them said yes.

I always compare the "ladder on the border wall" left argument to a person dying in an auto accident while wearing a seatbelt then people saying seat belts don't work..

Qz.com.......lol, wow.

TJH, respond with a yes or no to this question. Nothing else.

If walls don't work, should we remove all existing barrier fence at the southern border?

So now Pelosi is saying no SOTU address even though the government is open.

She can't be fearing what Trump might say, so what is the problem?

The problem is that all the Supreme Court Justices are expected to attend. The rumor is that justice Ginsberg has passed away and the Dems want to keep it secret as long as possible, in hopes that Trump is impeached or assassinated soon.

It’s no conspiracy, just more Dem double speak and reneging. Nothing new.

Fox News ran an accidental screen shot of RBG passing away last week I believe. How could this be kept a secret if it really did happen?

One foot on american soil and they're in the system. More drones and border Patrol will just mean an escort into the country or quicker Cath and release. There is no choice, but to physically stop human trafficking.

As for e verify we spent 3 billion dollars on healthcare.gov. it failed. The set up for cash for clunkers crippled junk yards.

As for more immigration judges 800k backlog 300k cases more annually. The cost of edjudicating the cases will range in the billions of dollars.

Yeah... like a wall.

Yes, there are places where a physical barrier makes sense. But Trump is the one stressing it must be 5+ billion for a wall. Not a mixture of methods, not bolstering what we have, he is demanding a wall. Efforts to depict this as Pelosi being inflexible gloss over this fact. He promised a wall and set a figure over which he would not negotiate.

My background is in IT. CIS degree from UNF in 2001 and in industry ever since.

Again, you didn't elaborate. I'm not shocked. Typical liberal.
