We're very thin at the position and only have so many draft picks. Backups are backups for a reason, especially on the OL.

PFF had him as the 3rd highest graded player on this Jags Offense (250 snap min) behind Linder and Westbrook. Maybe that speaks volumes for just how terrible everybody else is on this Offense, or maybe Flowers wasn't as god awful as everybody thinks he was with us.

I'm not saying he's good at all, but the chances you find somebody better with a 5th round pick is slim. QB, TE, OG, WR all need to be addressed before a swing tackle, at the minimum.

1. It does speak volumes. Our entire offense was either injured or played putrid.

2. I completely disagree. I believe we could easily find a better swing Tackle in the 4th round.

As far as QB needing to be addressed in the draft before a Swing Tackle, well that depends. If Haskins is gone when we pick, I'd rather go for a decent short term fix like Flacco or Fitzpatrick in free agency and take a flyer on a QB like Brett Rypien in the late 3rd or early 4th, as a developmental QB. That way we could still possibly have a decent 2019 season, while being able to find our future franchise QB in the 2020 draft. Remember, we have 2 third round picks, so we could address swing Tackle in the late third or early forth round. Possibly Chuma Edoga?

FA falls before the draft though so you'd have to make a decision on a FA QB way before draft time. This FA will be very telling on the FO's opinions of the QB position in this draft.

I still don't think swing tackle is to high on the list. Wells and Flowers could fill that spot without spending draft resources on it and risk passing up a TE/OG/WR. We still have to see what happens at RT with Richardson and Parnell. It was basically a red shirt year for Richardson, but it's like people completely forget we drafted him last season.

Really, it's hard to project possible draft picks until after FA. That'll give us a little bit clearer picture of the possible direction of our draft and where they might go.

Yes, Wells and Flowers could fill the swing Tackle position without spending draft resources, but where would that get us? We'd still be stuck with bad backups and that was a HUGE factor in why we failed so badly last season. I know they would be "just backups", but you have to be prepared for injuries to happen, because they always do. The O-Line is an area where they seem to happen a lot. We had both starting Tackles, a LG and a Center that were put on season ending IR last year and those guys may not be 100% when they get back. If we don't address depth on the O-Line, this team doesn't deserve to be good.

Why would that effect a decision about Swing Tackle? Both of those guys have only played on the right side their entire career?

1 a POZ type linebacker. Someone super smart to help get the defense into position. I think our D missed that the most.

2. OL. the OL seems deep in this draft and we could potentially address the entire right side of the line.

3. QB. I'm meh at this point about the Qbs in this draft. I don't really want foles either. I know i'll be hanged for this, but we can probably live with Bortles one more year and wait till next years QB crop. Althought looking at Bortles career he'll probably have good year next year and we'll have to sell the farm in order to get his heir lol.

4. a FS to eventually replace GIP.

What if you go 8-8 with Bortles next year and are picking mid first?  Just take whatever QB falls to you being that you will problaby have to take the 3rd or 4th QB off the board

I’m hoping they draft :

QB
OL
TE

in that order, preferably.

The WR/RB stuff needs attention - but I wouldn’t use early picks on that.
I’d probably do very little on defense unless a crazy talent falls in their lap in the middle rounds.

Right now I am leaning towards getting 2 QBs, but only if they think they can get a guy to beat out Lee. 2 guys I am interested in, in the latter rounds is Thorson and McSorley.

Flowers was bad. Really bad. So was Walker, but they had him rated otherwise as well.

Nonetheless - they have to do something about depth - and Flowers May be in camp to compete for a backup role. Doubt he wins it, but...

I mean, besides Linder, who wasn't bad on the OL? They were all garbage, but you can't replace all of them and you don't just run off guys when you literally have nobody else.

FA comes before the draft and you can't assume you're going to fill every need in the draft. I also never said Flowers would win out anything, or be the guy. I simply just said that I wouldn't be surprised if they resigned him on a short/cheap contract to try and fill that swing tackle role.
I disagree.

Parnell had a few bad games against speed rushers before injury but he wasn’t garbage. Same kind of deal with Norwell.
Wells played solid before going down. Not garbage either. Good backup level play from him.

I didn’t say to run Flowers off. I said he’d probably lose the backup role to someone better in camp.

Wells >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Flowers   Regardless of whatever PFF is saying.

I hope they have competition in camp for
O-Line depth that includes Wells, Flowers, a mid to late pick or two and a couple of UDFAs.

They also obviously need to take a lineman early in the draft to hopefully start.

I think of all positions, OL should be a lock for us to draft this year.
