Jags interested in Jesse James

I would love the signing. Good blocker and a decent receiver. Better receiver we’ve had at the position in a while. Would fit into our offense very well IMO. Just hope we don’t overpay to outbid the bills who have much more cap room.

Dang it. Jags were supposed do this under the radar. Plus the Bills have like $70 million in cap room. Now they will never get him for a reasonable price.
He's a well rounded player at his position. Can seal the edge really well in the blocking game but he's also sneaky good in the receiving game. He's been fun to watch over the last two years. He's not Heath Miller but he's roughly in the same mold overall.
Just depends on what we do at the QB position. Still on the fence about Haskins and Murray. Not sold if they manage to land Foles. At this point if they don't feel comfortable with what's out there they may want to consider low risk investments in 2019. Maybe Tannehill on a 1 year deal if the Phins part ways with him as rumored. Or Fitzpatrick. Just a few guys with recent starting experience that are not afraid to sling it unlike Kessler. If Bortles is still on the roster during training camp they'll need legitimate competition. Obviously.... ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? That article is funny.
TE is a "low-key" need for the Jags?? LOL Anyway - Many of us have been speculating for months now that the Jags may sign a mid-tier TE in free agency if they move on from ASJ. (in addition to drafting one) James makes sense as a candidate, but this will come down to his market value. Maxx Williams and Luke Wilson may be mid/lower tier guys to keep an eye on as well. He had his breakout year but I still don't think he's a good receiver. Really really slow , even for a TE, not a good route runner.
His best value is just being a big body in the red zone. Most of his receiving comes from the red zone or being wide open on short routes because he's the least dangerous weapon on the Steelers. Good blocker I think?? This year I've read he was good at least

Bad knee and ankle injuries, with the injury to ASJ not sure if we go that route. If we do get Foles the more I think about it, Hockenson is probably my top guy in the draft right there with Metcalf. I like Metcalf a lot i just feel TE is a much bigger need and hopefully Dave and Tom finally realize that. Not to mention Foles loves throwing to his TE and Hockenson is one of the best TE's to come out. Even if we dont go Hockenson in the 1st this TE class is deep where we can get a good one in rounds 2 or 3. Isaac Nauta is another guy I think we will be high on with his blocking ability, big school, was a 5 star prospect, and was kind of underutilized in Georgia. If we do go after a guy with injury history hopefully its Eifert

Guys, as a fan who has watched every play JJ has ever played, I can tell you he is a decent player but honestly not a legit starting TE. And, trust me, he is nowhere near what a Heath Miller was.
He's only "OK" at blocking and he will drop some easy passes and he won't get many yards after the catch. Once Vance McDonald finally got healthy, he easily got the majority of the targets over JJ, and for good reason. But I believe he is a good teammate and all of that. And, trust me, he is nowhere near what a Heath Miller was. This right here. JJ is not a target I was looking at to move the needle, but provide some reliable depth at a position of complete need and be like the 2nd TE, especially with team defined by running the ball and with lack of elite offensive tackles. Jaguars need football players at TE who can at least be average at both blocking and catching. I know everyone is salivating at the TE draft class or players like Maxx with injury history. But not all rookies will pan out, especially in year 1 and given Jaguars luck in past years, availability is possibly more important that upside. We show less advertisements to registered users. Honestly I don't see him being that much better than ASJ. He had his moments at Pitt, but he also had quite a bit of talent around him with AB, Bell(when he was there), and not to mention Ben tossing him the rock. It is hard to get a good read on how good this guy would be if he was in a lethargic system like ours last year with no linemen next to him, no wr's to pull coverage away from him, and BB throwing him passes that look like punts.
IMHO this is sort of a lateral move since we had ASJ. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Agreed. The Jags best chance at a real receiving threat at TE comes on April 25th in Nashville. Not when free agency begins in March. I think they will come away with an upgrade at TE prior to the 4th round this year. If they sign a free agent, that player will likely end up below the rookie on the depth chart IMO. I agree that he's not necessarily any better than ASJ - but he would still definitely be an upgrade based on availability. He's hasn't missed a game in the last 3 seasons (48 games) while ASJ has played in 27 games during that same timeframe - that alone makes him an upgrade in my opinion. |
