Huh?....So the road was there the whole time? I thought it was under construction. 

9A existed from the airport to the Dames Point Bridge and eventually extended to Butler Blvd near the UNF campus.  

 

The portion that connected the "Baymeadows" area to the original 295 towards Orange Park  was unfinished  until fairly recently. (I think 2- 1/2 years ago or so)

that's probably what I remember, my apartment was in Arlington so that makes sense.

Off topic- Does anybody know why the Old Fuller Warren bridge was a draw bridge since it is Interstate 95?

All I remember is one day my mother was cursing wondering why a interstate bridge was a draw. I think this was before the construction began on the new FW.

Yeah, just like rj said it was a low bridge. I remember riding over the grate (lift) part and being able to see the water. ,Kinda scary.

Yeah, just like rj said it was a low bridge. I remember riding over the grate (lift) part and being able to see the water. ,Kinda scary. 

I remember the first time I rode a motorcycle over the Matthews.  The steel grated section at the top was a little sketchy!  Took a few crossings to feel OK about it.

I read somewhere a while back there was a barrier around one of the old supports of the FW that FDOT refused to demolish. I noticed when riding the Acosta in the last few years I didnt recall seeing it anymore.

I believe the bridge was there before the Interstate was.

I read somewhere a while back there was a barrier around one of the old supports of the FW that FDOT refused to demolish. I noticed when riding the Acosta in the last few years I didnt recall seeing it anymore.

Didn't one of the police boats crash into it and seriously injured the driver and then they decided to demolish the rest?

I wonder how long it will be before I call it 295, rather than 9A. It's a way of telling how long someone has lived in the area. I call it Everbank now but for years it was still the Gator Bowl. I still call the whatever building the Gulf Life Tower. There are probably a few more examples I could come up with if I though about it.

Yes. JTB is what I usually say too. I said it to one of my younger cousins (18 y.o.) and she looked at me like I was crazy.  Her Mom chimed in with "Butler Blvd" and she got it.
