True Detective

I really should check out HBO again.  I subscribed to them many years ago but cancelled because they showed new content the first week of the month and then ran it in a loop the remaining three weeks.  One show they did produce weekly, and one of the main reasons I subscribed to HBO, was because of a show called Dream On with Brian Ben Ben.  I loved it.  It went to network for one season and then vanished, which was best.  The show's adult theme is what made it so funny.

I love their streaming service, HBO Go. You can watch every series they've ever had, plus about 200 movies that change from month to month. The only downside is that DirecTV doesn't allow streaming it on Roku or SmarTVs, just online on computers and tablets.

If I'm not mistaken HBO a few years ago said they will never let netflix stream their stuff.

I've been wanting to watch this. I'm still looking for a Sunday night show, other than TWD, to replace Dexter and Breaking Bad with. I've heard nothing but great things about it.

Crap, I'm a DirecTv subscriber and a Smart TV is just what I want to stream it to.  Oh well.

I don't know how much effort you'd want to put into it, but I can hook my Kindle Fire tablet up to my TV and stream it that way.

Another great episode last night. I have to admit, without being too dramatic, that what Rust was saying about the dead girls faces, and death in general, hit home with me a little bit.

This series features some great writing and acting.

Teenagers could rule the world. Thank goodness most lack the ambition to do so.

Quote:HBO has itself another winner. Their new series, True Detective, is right up my alley. Take a creepy story, throw in some disturbed, complicated characters and have it all happen in the deep south. Good stuff.

Why it took so long to put Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson together is beyond me. Great performances from both of them so far, and it promises to only get better.

HBO seems to find these gems.  With Boardwalk Empire winding down, this is a great show.  A lot of their original programming these days is pure garbage, but they seem to find shows like the Sopranos or Boardwalk that keep things interesting.

I like the fact that they're going to switch things up from season to season.  I'm curious to see if they follow the American Gothic model where they use many of the same actors, and simply change the story completely, or if they go with a different cast for each season.  I was really surprised by the ensemble they landed for this, and I'm not sure these actors would be on board to continue this for more than a season.

It's hard to say there has been a better character on TV in the past decade than Rustin Cohle.  And to cast it with McConaughey was a brilliant move because the guy is as nutty as the character, and equally intelligent.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I've been watching it since the beginning as well. Was thinking about starting a thread also, but as usual never got around to it. Great show so far.

Not that they're even close to the same show, but one of my favorite characters in any show right now is Red Reddington (James Spader) in the Blacklist. Spader makes that show. What a sinister, yet suave, character and he pulls it off fantastically.

As much as I love the writing and acting in True Detective, I'm also very thankful it's on HBO, because we get to see Alexandra Daddario naked.

I started watching it last night, it seems good, though the way McConaughey smoke his cig irks the hell out of me.

I just caught up on it a few days ago and I must say I can dig it. Not usually a big McConaughey fan but I think he's great in his role.

This is me. I have a huge new respect for him. He is knocking his role out of the park.

Caught up on the three episodes and I'm really digging it.

It was a good move going on hiatus this week with the Super Bowl on.
