I think RG and RT are question marks right now and we have no competent depth currently in place.

I feel fine about:  Robinson  - Norwell -  Linder

But the right side is unknown.

Parnell's cap hit at RT is 6 million.  He's been solid to good at the spot except when banged up or facing speed rushers.
Opposing coordinators have a bead on that weakness now and they slide speedy guys over there to challenge him more often.  Releasing him for cap consideration and drafting a tackle that handles speed more adeptly is certainly worthy of consideration. Who knows if he's back or not?

Will Richardson is a complete unknown entity and we have no clue where the staff sees his development or potential use.
They may plug him in at RG to replace Cann (who may or may not be res-signed as he hits free agency) - or they may really expect him (Richardson) to compete for Parnell's job.  They may see him as a longshot to start but he represents good depth. We have no idea.

I'd absolutely without doubt draft an offensive tackle who has the ability to slide to guard (if needed) early in the upcoming draft.
Give yourself a chance to get the best five guys out there and add to the pool of talent from which to select them.
I'd make this happen prior to the third round if I were calling shots.

Beyond this - I'd attempt to re-sign Shatley and Wells cheaply if possible for depth, while adding a late rounder and an UDFA or two to cultivate more depth.

Based on the late season games, I'd not have Reed, Walker, Omameh or Flowers anywhere near my training facility in July.

Cann has always been a serviceable guard who, by sheer circumstance, has never had to face serious competition at his position.  And Richardson may or may not finally provide some.  Depends on how well he progresses.  But if he does start to look good, then I think he will be a serious threat for the starting job.  Cann is definitely replaceable.  We've just never had anyone here or looked very hard for someone who could do so.

I don't think it's just a matter of talent although I know Marrone would argue this point. It's just when you're paying a guy starting money, you want him to start. I'm thinking for someone to be out Cann, he's going to have to obviously beat out Cann by a mile. If it's even close, the job is AJ's.

  Look at the guaranteed money in his deal. 

He's the 36th highest paid guard in the league in guarantees. 

Starter money?  Yes, but barely.  Doesn't scream "confidence" to me.

The reason Richardson is getting time at RG now is because we drafted Taylor.  If we never drafted Taylor I don't think you would be seeing Richardson at G.

That's awesome. But you can also look like Tarzan and play like Jane at this level. Hopefully everything translates well for him at RT. I have the same concerns as you. I feel fairly comfortable and confident between Robinson, Norwell and Linder from left to center. But the right side will have to step it up this year. I am just hoping Robinson and Linder can psychically hold up this year as well.

I'm thinking the steal of the draft.  He weighed almost 400 lbs not that long ago.  I like his attitude and great work ethic.  I honestly feel like he could play LT also if something happens to Cam and Richardson could get his shot at RT.  Hopefully Cam can stay healthy too though.  If our oline stays healthy I think we have the most potential out of any oline in the league with Norwell, as we know he has all ready been an All Pro and Linder has been a top 5 C since he moved there.  Hopefully Cann has a career year and we will dominate

My complaints about Cann over the past couple of years have been the result of seeing him beaten too many times in the run game. I've just seen too many plays where he allowed penetration into the backfield - or plays where he got zero push against his guy. 

I think there is a very good chance he'll look better playing between a healthy Linder and Taylor than he did with Shatley and an injured Parnell. (or one of Parnell's various backups)

I just see him as a pretty easily upgradeable guard, not necessarily a "bad" player or anything.

I can't wait to see him in preseason.  I still have very little opinion on the guy.  I thought the bashing he got pre-draft was over the top/undeserved based on what I saw in cutups.

Cann strikes me as rather reliable in pass protection. He played next to backup caliber Center which surely didn't help. That said, I've never been overly impressed with his run blocking. Technically he's sound, but you don't see the kind of power we used to see when we had Meester and Naeole up front.

Cann was re-signed for a reason. The new OL coach has emphasized confidence in his ability to continue progressing at his position. As it's been stated, Cann had to do his job and theirs as well. He was the most durable O-LINEMEN of the 2018 season. I envision him being an asset vs. being an hinderence.

Norwell still needs to make a full recovery and show he can play like he did on the Panthers and Cann is just a guy. If you think of offensive guards like they are dime a dozen players, then you'll never have good ones.  Guards are not dime a dozen players, or else it would be very easy to fill those spots and as our history shows, it's not.  You don't just pick a guy late in the draft and expect to get a good player.
