Impressions From the Chiefs game
|
Marroney Baloney's handling of the AFCCG second half was worthy of firing but since 2017 was so good they let him stay and I was OK with that. But...last year was very telling as he went 5-11 and it appeared that he had lost control of the team. I'm not one to panic after one game (especially against a team like KC) but really, what kind of coach is this guy?
As for Wash, he's a Gus guy and should have been gone when they took out that trash.

After spending the offseason talking about eliminating penalties and immaturity, we get more of it. Nothing's changed. Do they just talk about this stuff, or do they actually do anything about it? Thanks for being better at capturing my angry offseason tone when I said the team wasn't "likeable". This sums up what I was trying to say. I will give crazy mad props to Calais that guy was on the field forever. I don't know how he did it with that heat. I really like the guy as a calm center to a chaotic immature defense.

In 25 years, this franchise has made one bad quarterback decision after another. The only good one was trading 2 mid-round draft picks for Mark Brunell. Minshew played great today, but it's hard to imagine him ever being more than a middle of the road back-up considering his physical limitations. In hindsight, the Jags would have been better off not paying all that money to Foles and then taking Haskins in the first round. Just like they should have drafted Big Ben, Mahomes and others instead of Leftwich, Gabbert and Bortles. I hope you're right about Minshew. Garrard did turn out to be a very good value pick.
I saw someone post here yesterday that Jalen Ramsey is poison to this team. At the time I didn't think much of it. But after considering it, I think I agree. There is no question Jalen is talented. Does he get more credit then he should? Debatable. I do believe the "swag" he added to the team has corrupted the mindset of many players. I don't remember us getting this many unsportsmanlike conducts in the past (fighting, taunting, etc...). I don't mind a little competitive banter. But it seems as though our team has taken on this "we're better than you" attitude when we're clearly not better.
Marrone has to change the attitude of this team and begin benching those who are contributing to the negativity we are seeing week in and week out. I think Myles Jack doing what he did was because of Ramsey's influence. I believe Fournette doing what he did last year was also because of Ramsey's influence. Jalen has said he doesn't want to be that "leader" in the locker room, but he has certainly influenced a lot of people on our team because of his attitude and trash talk.
Here we go again
Why does anyone even bother watching this garbage?

Fournette was used WAY too much, as usual. It's like the team doesn't even want him to play the second half of the season.

Again, lack of depth kills us. Watching the game on Gamepass. Fournette is showing burst this year! So happy to see him playing well. Excited to see him getting the ball out of the backfield, too. Fix the O-Line!

Seems to be somewhat of an influence there. (09-09-2019, 11:21 AM)I am Yoda Wrote:(09-09-2019, 11:19 AM)Upper Wrote: Fournette was used WAY too much, as usual. I was just now able to see the TD to Conley and man what a beautiful back shoulder throw by Minshew. I really think this kid could help the Jags be.500 by the time Foles comes back. He throws on time, processes quickly and has a fast release..... He's literally the opposite of Blake.
Their offense won't change much because they will still be a run first team but he played well yesterday. What's really a bummer is how difficult the beginning of the Jags schedule is. @Texans, Titans, @Broncos, @Panthers, Saints..... Yikes. Over the past 24 years, we've seen a lot of things and had a lot of memories, good and bad. The jubilation of being awarded the team, the unveiling of the uniform, making Tom Coughlin head coach, the first ten signings, the expansion draft, the trade for Brunell, our first draft-featuring Tony Boselli, the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Boyz II Men singing the national anthem in our first game ever, Brunell to Howard for the game winning TD in our first win ever, beating the loathsome Steelers at home for our first home win The history continued with the season opening win against Pittsburgh, getting to beat down the then hated Carolina, Rison running the wrong route, Brunell giving him an epic butt chewing, TC cutting him Rison the next day the run, continued by Morten's inexplicable miss, the wild card in in Buffalo, Woody Paige's "Jagwads" dig and Jacksonville's win in Denver are some of the noteworthy earliest memories of this franchise. The timeline continues with the first two Monday night games-both wins, Little Man's 5 TDs in a game, 62-7, Uh-oh and three vs. the tacks, "Soward's folly", 234 yards, the punt return v. Philly, Spurrier's return, the Leftwich pick, FT vs. Doss, BL to Wilford, the return to the postseason, "Fisher Sucks," 9-0, 375, the "might getcha" defense, the collapse of 2006, Leftwich vs. Garrard, BL's release, Northcutt's drop, the trades for Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves, "In Gene We Trust," and the sad days of Mularkey continues. The modern day memories began with the hirings of Dave Caldwell and Gus Bradley and disastrous seasons but good draft classes in 2014 and 2016. The fiddy birger put on Indy, the firing of Gus Bradley, Campbell and Bouye, the trade for Dareus and miraculous 2017 run, "Myles Jack wasn't down," Yannick v. Fowler, Fpurnette's faulty hammy and fighting in Buffalo, the 2018 collapse and the Nick Foles signing brings us to today's unfortunate results. But with the ups and downs-mostly downs, especially the lack of a Super Bow-l remember the days before Jacksonville got the Jaguars. I'd much rather live with those ups and downs than without them. Even with the losing, the Jaguars made life in Jacksonville far more interesting. Now onto my thoughts on the game.I'm good with almost all of your analysis, but I have to disagree on your perception of Minshew. This young man has taken the starter job in college on every team he has played for, Career overall QB rating 138.7 East Carolina 2017 129.1, 2016 124.0 and Washington State 2018 147.6 . I will come back and eat crow if Minshew does not prove he could be the starter on a number of NFL teams after we have a body of work to really assess his play.
Good take, Bull - I'm not ready to give up on the year, but I'm not optimistic about playoff chances. After one game, half of the teams in the league are winless and, to some extent, are likely going through what we're going through right now as a fanbase. I had KC beating us by 2-3 scores in my prediction, so all things considered, we were more competitive than I thought (defense notwithstanding).
Also, I'm fully on the Minshewii train till Nick Foles comes back. Let the kid fire that pigskin...because most teams are gonna stack the box and I love the idea of a 6th round rookie throwing it all over the field.
I'll play you in ping pong.
