Here is the thing.

1. NFL said they will be more strict on calling holding this year.
2. Good offensive line technique is hard now because fewer college players are taught the techniques that pro teams want them to use.
3. Most NFL teams basically took the preseason off and didn't get "real game snaps".

All that leads to way more holding calls that are legitimate. It not the NFL's fault that teams didn't listen. It's not the NFL's fault that players are not as prepared for the NFL style of blocking.

You can argue the NFL and coaches should just adjust to the new style of NFL, but at some point you have give the defense a break instead of keep making rule changes/adjustments that puts them at a disadvantage.
