Jadeveon Clowney

Quote:um... what kind of offense did he play in then? It wasn't a flexbone. Chan Gailey didn't run a flexbone at Georgia Tech. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:It wasn't a flexbone. Chan Gailey didn't run a flexbone at Georgia Tech.oh, you're right. Either way, he didn't have the top WR numbers, but he was still that freak you'd take no matter his production
Quote:Some people don't know the kind of prospect Clowney is. If Calvin Johnson was in this draft he would probably take Teddy. If Bridgewater weighed in between 215-220 and ran a 4.5 displayed a 9/10 arm, yes I would All those are very possibly too
Quote:Teams don't always draft on production. Calvin Johnson didn't have the best wr numbers in college since he played in a flexbone offense, but you could see his talent was off the charts.... just like Moss, Kearse, Peppers, etc.I am talking about in the NFL...

Quote:Gerald McCoy makes his ends much better because of the penetration he gets into the back fieldMarks does just fine Quote:I'm taking the far better player, once-in-a-lifetime freak prospect at a position that is used to stop other franchise QBs and then I'm selecting one of my own in the 2nd round. That seems like the most sensible approach to me.

Who the heck decided that Clowney is already a guaranteed All Pro and Teddy (or any other 1st round QB) is barely better than the later guys? That is in no way already proven.
If Dave determines that there is a franchise QB prospect available at 3 he doesn't care if the promise of Reggie White is available at 3 he passes on him for the QB. It's really that simple.
To illustrate my previous post, which I have done a few other times in other topics (and probably this one earlier even). JJ Watt had literally the all time best all around defensive end season in 2011. In that season he had a 19% positive impact percentage, which is phenomenal. That combined sacks, pressures, tackles, deflections, etc. There is realistically very little chance that Clowney will ever have that good of a season.
That means that 81% of the time Watt was rendered completely ineffective. Are we really going to pass on a franchise QB prospect for a guy who even if he does turn out to be an all time great DE will still be completely useless 80+% of the time? I sure as heck am not. It's fun to think OMGGGGG BEST PROSPECT EVER!!!, but you all are drastically over romanticizing the impact a great DE has. We show less advertisements to registered users. That's the point. No one in this draft is an NFL player. No one knows how they will perform. That's what scouting does for you.

When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.

If you grade the DE higher, then you take the DE. Both positions are important. If QBs are so important (theres only about 5 elite franchise QB), then why was Brady (6th rd, yes lucky but the pats were built on D), Wilson (rd 3), Kaep (rd 2) in the final 4? 49ers and Seahawks can get to your QB w/o blitzing basically eliminating your franchise QB. Clowney would commend a lot of double teams and easily make everyones life on defense easier. I'm not trying to downgrade Bridgewater who I believe will be great as well, but I feel like Clowney is better.

Also, wouldn't Bridgewater be gone and not even being discussed, if we are using your logic? Why would the Texans pass on the next Peyton Manning? So this wouldn't even be Clowney vs Bridgewater. It would be Clowney vs Bortles.

Also there are rumors that they may stick with with Schuab if O'Brien can work with him
Quote:What would you rather have?Of course I would take the all pro QB. In the past 10 years, theres really only been 3 all pro QBs. Brady, Manning, and Rodgers. You don't know if Bridgewater is going to be Manning or Matt Ryan. Matt Ryan is a franchise QB. Bridgewater can easily be Matt Ryan. I feel like Clowney is one of those prospects in the realm of Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss, Suh, Kearse, Peppers, etc.... that is so extremely gifted with athleticism. |
