On the Jaguars 2017 season and the wisdom of crowds.

Quote:Three wins is too low. This is a weak schedule on paper. I broke that down in a different thread but outside of Pittsburgh, Seattle, Cincinnati and Arizona (If, and only if Palmer is healthy) I see the rest of the schedule as winnable. We split the series last year with the tacks and clots. The tinhorns have a questionable QB situation so it's not out of question we go at least 3 - 3 in the division this year.

We play the 49ers, Jets, Browns & Rams as well. If this team can't beat them then they suck. It's that simple. All four of those teams are in far worse situations than we are right now roster wise. They virtually have no talent or no answer at the QB position. And as bad we think ours is with Bortles. It's nowhere near as bad or questionable as those three teams have in 2017. That's 7 - 3 right there for me at the minimum.

After that. We have Baltimore in London. That could go either way. We play the Chargers who historically own us. And then as cited above between Pittsburgh, Seattle, Cincinnati and Arizona I expect those games to be measuring sticks for 2018 since those teams are typically in the play-off hunt. We'll either keep the games close and lose by a few points or we'll get obliterated by them.

7 - 9 is what I'd go with this year with the additions to the defense and a commitment to the ground game. I just don't see this coaching staff or front office putting up with a lousy football team and lousy effort this year. Just can't see it. Just can't happen.

Yes, the Chargers have owned us for as long as I can remember. They've definitely got our number. My prediction is they beat us by 30.

Indeed they are one team that has owned us, but I'm not conceding this year's contest so quickly. The Chargers appear to have fallen off a bit while this is surely a much improved Jaguars roster. It's really been Rivers and the Chargers passing game that we simply haven't been able to begin to deal with, but now with Ramsey and our entire starting secondary, we might just get this one. I'll say the Jaguars eek out a very close win as the student, Todd Wash, gets the best of his former master, Gus Bradley.

If we aren't at least .500 Bortles better be gone and Doug/Caldwell can go with him. 3-6 wins is insulting to talent on this roster.

If we start out 0-4, then Bortles needs to be benched.

I still don't understand why they are wasting their money on a side building awning. Its what you do when you can't afford to move into a bigger place. Shad has money. He should cancel the whole project and build us a dome... it's freaking hot year round... it would make more sense than building something that has nothing to do with football.

You know how this is going to go. Anything less that eight is on Caldwell. Anything more than eight wins is all due to Coughlin.

Must be nice to be Coughlin and have a designated person who will be blamed for any and all failures.

Coughlin just got here. He's not going anywhere after one season no matter how poorly this team does. If our record doesn't improve within a reasonable time frame I think most fans would agree he can go to. It's time to start winning games.

Yup, exactly lol.

It's comedy watching how people try and spin it.

Coughlin has enough clout that he's not going anywhere, probably ever. 2 rings in recent history, plus 4 playoff appearances with the Jaguars.

Caldwell has put a ton of talent on this team.

Telvin, Robinson, Hurns, Ramsey, Jack, Bouye, Church, Fournette, Fowler, etc.

Quote:It's really tough to predict our division.

I look at the TItans and I admit to being a little scared. I actually think they take the division rather easily because their offense looks so tight all the way around. Just before he was injured, Mariota was playing better than Luck, and the Titans were already boasting perhaps the best OL and of the best TEs in the game. This year they add Corey Davis in the draft, and with their OL it doesn't really matter who is running the ball for them. I see them fielding a power offense but wonder if they might have some vulnerabilities on defense. Back in '99, it was the Jaguars who had the power offense, but the Titans had our number with their ability to control the clock and with their stout defense. Is Karma reeling her head around?

The Colts have Andrew Luck, and that's really all you need to know about their offense. As long as Luck is there, you know they'll be pretty good. Overall this is a team that at least fringes on the playoffs every season, and they appear to have significantly improved their secondary with their first two picks in the draft. Their roster is in transition and overall appears lacking in talent, but they still have the key players to get the job done, and I can easily see them going say 9-7. The Jaguars, however, have had their number the past couple years, and I can see that continuing. Here's hoping we sweep the Colts this year.

The Texans I predict are in for a long season trying to maintain DeShaun Watson as their QB. I know the crowds still see them as a Playoff contender, but I won't be shocked in the least if they go 5-11. Still, it's tough to predict a sweep over them because those Texans always play us hard even when they do stink.
Correction in 99 our former d coordinator game our playbook to our rivals. Otherwise the Jaguars win the Superbowl.

We maybe get to the SB that year, but I don't see us beating the Rams because Marshall Faulk would have exploited the Jaguars only real weakness on defense.with his ability to catch the ball. Our LBs that year struggled covering TEs and RBs.
