A former GM suggests to The Athletic a Nick Foles to Chicago trade

#41

Why would we trade Foles when we don’t even know if minshew is the long term answer.. and we’ve only seen Foles play half a quarter.

And nobody knew yet that Trubiscuit wouldn't develop.
We also don't know what was offered to ARob. But yes, we let him walk by not over paying him, though in hindsight over paying him probably wouldn't have been.

I don't think the coach staff is helping the kid out any. Bringing him back from injury and having him drop back and throw 55 times vs 7 runs is silly.
ARob was the only thing that was producing for them this past weekend. Think he had like 8 catches for close to a bill.

OT:
Foles isn't going anywhere until the off season at the earliest. (If at all)

Why we're so sure we knew that Blake was the reason why he didn't want to be here when he had his best season under Blake Bortles. I do believe Blake Bortles played a role only because the contract the front office want to give him was incentive lated. I believe the philosophy and structure of the offense at the time and Blake's inconsistency good or bad made a person like A-Rob take to guarantee money instead even though Mitchell trubisky was coming off of his rookie season.

"a big reason" =/= THE REASON

Because we all heard his frustration at practice "keep that [BLEEP] in bounds bro!"

They did offer him a contract and iirc it was reported he took LESS to go to Chi town.
I wouldn't argue that a combination of TC and Blake were main reasons for not wanting to play here.

That's not true Chicago have more guarantees in their contract than Jacksonville who wanted 2 make his contract incentive lated based on his injury history. You can't take one clip of frustration and make that a narrative why somebody didn't want to resign with this organization. If that's the case then the reason why they traded fowler was because of him and Yani fight in training camp last year which is not true. My point is one moment don't make or break a decision on a situation

Can we just close this? Writers should check the salary cap before mentioning a trade that can't happen because of the contract

The GM of the Bears isn't gonna admit he made a massive blunder taking Trubisky already

On that note, can't teams actually trade the dead money of deals now?

No.  Any unamorized signing bonus, $18.75 million in the case of Foles, would be immediately accelerated onto the Jags cap if he were traded.  The good news is the new acquiring team would inherit any guaranties or other salaries/payments in his contract going forward.

That's dumb. I get the basis, but at the same time, if say Chicago is like "we'd be willing to absorb 100% of that contract including the singing bonus" they should be able to

Bingo.  Foles isn't going anywhere anytime soon.  When he's ready to play, he'll be back under center and Minshew will revert back to backing him up and developing.  We should be celebrating the fact that it looks like we've got two good QBs on the roster instead of thinking it's time to trade one of them away.  We've got plenty of draft capital to work with thanks to the Ramsey trade.  Let's just enjoy what we have.

We need a LB and I understand Chicago has a pretty decent one.

Trading Foles is pointless because of the cap hit, but SB quality QB.  Stop it....I wish i had that jordan gif.  Foles is a question mark with this Jaguars team and from looking at Minshew scramble behind this line, i just pray Foles doesnt need serious medical attention by season's end.  SB Quality lol but we're the crazies.

SB MVP in a offensive onslaught for both teams, playing against hardly any defense does not make you the savior sir.  Believe whatever you like tho. I mean we'll see. Nothing but time at this point and salute to Coughlin, Dave, and the rest of the leaders of this team. I have seen the light.

Keep fighting the good fight Ronster! Doesn't make him a SB QB. Lol. I've read some rubbish on here but that may be the winner. He only has a SB ring!!
Doesn't makes him a champion! Lol!!!

He suggested Philly special!

Foles admittedly is something of an unknown here having only had real success with Philly. It's ok to say that and have some concerns about whether he can duplicate that success.

But arguing that he's not "Super Bowl quality" after leading the Eagles to their first title, and he did Lead them, whether he got on a hot streak or got lucky, or whatever - it's kind of like arguing that water isn't wet.
And nobody gets to and wins a Super Bowl without some luck. Unless maybe if you're the Patriots

Apparently winning a SB is all you need.  The facts of what happened before or after don't matter.  I just hope we have that 2017 Eagles team so that he can pick up where he left off.
