I think that Minshew had some miscues in weeks 6 and 7 and has been getting some coaching about that. He showed signs of correction vs the jets, and if he continues that correction in London then the staff very well could lean toward the hot hand. 

It will be interesting to see if the tinhorns attempt to contain Minshew within the tackle box like the saints did. They may be a bit better equipped to do it than the jets were, and it clearly limits his penchant and knack for extending plays and keeping drives alive. 

If that were to happen again, then coaches have no choice but to at least consider Foles' ability to get the ball out quickly from the pocket.  Something Minshew seems to be a beat slower with.  A half second can make all the difference and it's widely thought Foles has an edge in that dept.

If they try to contain him in the pocket how should they address the defense then? Maybe get away from under center and play from the shot gun? Give him more space?

Just trying to think. It helps with Watt out for sure. I like the idea of quick plays though. Maybe Josh Oliver is more loose after playing two weeks in a row.

It'll be a fun game though for sure.

If the horns do it, I'd imagine the coaching staff has to have already come up with a game plan to attack a soft QB contain rush like that. I'd think we could run draws out of the gun all game against that with LF, but can't remember if it was attempted vs the Saints. Screens might be a good option as well, but I'm just shooting from the hip on that one . 

I'd definitely be shocked if there wasn't a sort of "plan B" to go to if it happens again though.

This. Good coaches counter punch. I cant remember the last time they ran a draw and I was looking for a screen or two all day yesterday at some point. A legitimate screen.

I think that's how they'll do it. Makes sense too with Watt out of the picture. He's made a killing batting those types of plays down or crashing the run play.

a) Foles can't survive behind this O Line. It's atrocious. Minshew does a good job of escaping poorly blocked defensive players. Foles... not so much. His body frame is like that of a high school golfer. One missed block by Norwell could send him into retirement

b) Minshew has 7 and a half games of working with the starters during real games. Foles has 2 quarters of a preseason game and 2 quarters of 1 regular season game. It's Defilippo's playbook, but does Foles step right and have the chemistry with receivers that Minshew currently has? I'm not so sure.

I don't think it was "game plan" so much as it was personnel.  The Saints have great players on defense.   Plus, what made things a lot easier for them on the back end was our lack of a TE.

I don't think it was "game plan" so much as it was personnel.  The Saints have great players on defense.   Plus, what made things a lot easier for them on the back end was our lack of a TE.

Minshew and Flip both credited the saints game plan to keep him between the tackles.  It was planned and executed.
Many defenses we face won't have the personnel to pull it off though.  Maybe that's what you meant here. 

There are ways to beat that plan - especially if the opponent has a weakness or two in it's secondary or can't continually stop the run. DeFilippo has undoubtedly earmarked pages of his playbook should an opponent be able to keep Minshew from doing his thing outside the tackle box to find an open guy.

If you recall, however, Big Mo Williams got hurt at some point in that game and tried to play through it, and McGinest wrecked shop the rest of the game.

I don't think it mattered who we had at QB (shoulda been DG).

We may have been 12-4, but it was the softest, clown-fraudiest 12-4 in ages. Indy won the division at 13-3, I still can't comprehend winning 12 in a season and having to settle for a WC spot.

It's really that simple.

Usually I agree with you but on this one I disagree. Because what if we beat the Texans due to our defense, and Minshew/offense have a horrible game? Or what if we lose to the Texans in a huge shoot-out with Minshew/offense doing great but due to our defense, we lose?

Not sure it's that simple, to the coaches either.  

Dang Variables.  They always bring another level of complexity to my otherwise simplistic lifestyle and thought process !!!

I dunno. If Minshew can somehow stay the course for an entire season and sling for Four THOUSAND yards, 26-30 TDS and less than 10 picks as a rookie...those are ALL TIME numbers for a 1st year player. Impressive as hell. Not just for a 6th rounder for ANYONE.
