The Buffalo Bills, who have been searching for a bona-fide quarterback since the departure of Jim Kelly after the 1996 season, completed their trade for former USC quarterback Rob Johnson on Friday.

The Bills acquired Johnson from the Jacksonville Jaguars for their first-round pick--the ninth overall--and their fourth-round selection in the upcoming draft.

Johnson, a fourth-round draft choice in 1995, emerged as a valuable commodity after filling in for injured Mark Brunell at the start of the 1997 season.

The Jaguars reportedly plan to offer the first-round choice from Buffalo and their own first-round selection (25th overall) in an effort to move up and draft Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson of Michigan.

Jacksonville Coach Tom Coughlin is very interested in Woodson and is close to hiring Vance Bedford, Woodson’s position coach at Michigan, to be the Jaguars’ new secondary coach.

We didn’t get Woodson, but we ended up with Fred Taylor and Tavian Banks with the 1st and 4th round picks. We also crippled another AFC competitor with a big cap hit and poor QB play

if someone inquired at the end of the year requesting a #1 and Foles actually turned out the be the real deal, I believe you have to make that trade.  Did someone say “Rob Johnson”

Yes, untouchable.   Because there is a solid chance that he is what GMs spend a dozen high picks looking for and still fail to find.

Everybody talks about that cheap 6th round contract, but can you really pay the NFL's best QB only $678k per year?  He has already outplayed his rookie contract 5x over.  Gardner Jorts of the 42 Wonderlic is gonna catch onto the fact that he's outplaying guys making 30x more.

I've thought about this a lot and every time I've watched him play. I would certainly hope that the Big 'Stache finds it in his heart to give the Magic 'Stache something beyond that pittance. He more than deserves it for what he's brought to the Jaguars. He's even drawing other teams fans to the Jaguars. 
You can't buy  ...the kind of publicity that GMII has brought.
I mean that's probably not even the cost of filling the tanks up on Kismet a few times....

By then, hopefully, he will have earned the biggest contract in franchise history and they will deliver it in an armored car in straight cash if that's how he wants it.

A starting-caliber TE
Two starting-caliber offensive linemen
$20M in salary cap considerations (kind of like trading for cash in MLB...not sure this is even allowed but w/e)

They get:
Gardner Minshew II...but he has to shave his mustache and leave it in the locker room so we keep the mojo alive for Foles

In summary: no way in hell do I trade Minshew right now. Not unless someone is willing to literally mortgage their franchise for him.

Redskins give us Dwayne Haskins and their 6th round pick (Kelvin Harmon - WR NC State) in exchange for the Jags giving them Minshew and our 1st round pick (Josh Allen - OLB Kentucky).

In all reality, does anyone know if the GM has complete authority to finalize trades or does it vary from team to team?  I mean, say Caldwell wanted to screw the Jags (and go to the Redskins).  Could he pull off that trade with no other approvals form within the Front Office or does Coughlin and/or Khan legally need to sign off as well?  What about other teams such as the Patriots -- Does Belichik have complete authority to make deals?  I don't think that is the case since Belichik was against the Garrapalo trade.  Must be the Owner that needs to sign off on all trades ?????

Coughlin has final say, but it's safe to assume that a trade of that nature would go to Khan's desk first.

70% of the board would have made that trade in August.

If the GM proposed a trade, it would have to be approved by TC and ostensibly by ownership since Tony is very hands on with the f.o.

Mahomes has no personality compared to Minshew... it's like Gardner was made for Jacksonville.
