What would it take to trade Minshew?

And it was an accident. An improbability of epic proportions. Why in the actual hell would we give that up? Yeah they both have their pros and cons, but man this is a good 'problem' to have!
Everybody has their price.
There's a price for Minshew, and a price for Foles. I think we can all agree that the price for Foles is much lower. Now that we have seen Minshew play, and keeping in mind that we get him on a sixth round salary for the next three years, a team would not have to offer us nearly as much to get Foles.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

Trading Foles would nuke our cap next year. I get why people are trying to move him, but he's realistically a Jaguar until 2021. What happens in 2021, if Minshew pans out, is anyone's guess. We still eat some on the cap? What's the point of the trade then if not to dump the contract on someone else, a la the Talib (and former Osweiler) trades? Just looked at spotrac The key is to trade him post 6/1 I guess. We still eat some dead cap but it is split between 2020 and 21, and the biggest savings. Problem there is, most teams have their QB situations settled. The best we can hope for is a restructure or retire on Foles part..... which would be... noble of him (10-30-2019, 02:08 PM)Kane Wrote:(10-30-2019, 01:51 PM)TJBender Wrote: This. Or we just pay the best backup QB in the NFL starter money for a year because we can't extend our sixth-round starter making sixth-round money until after his third year anyway. Seriously. We have two good QBs. Can't we just enjoy that for a while instead of trying to figure out how to get rid of a guy who costs us more if he plays for someone else than if he plays for us? Actually, because the CBA expires after the 2020 season, I'm pretty sure I read that there is no post June 2020 cap splits and that expected incentives on contracts would take affect in the 2020 season instead of the next season like they normally do.

I've been trying to drive this home. ^ We have luxury at QB right now. It is a good thing. We don't need to move Foles until either after 2020 - (or if really rich trade offer comes along prior to next year's deadline) Having a guy like Foles on the bench sure proved valuable for the eagles. Let's enjoy being able to overpay for that for a minute. We have plenty of ways to clear cap if we need to do so.

We dont need to get rid of Foles at the end of the season and I dont think we do. Feels great to have 2 really good players at the most important position. Foles is one of the best QBs to learn from as well, let Minshew learn from this guy and we have the best back up in the league.(10-30-2019, 01:51 PM)TJBender Wrote: This. Foles is still the starter in a couple more weeks. GM15 is still the backup today.
