This further proves the point that the Foles decision was out of Marrones hand. Marrone benches Foles and now all of a sudden someone "leaks" information that Marrone will be fired?

I don't know that it proves anything. Shad set the bar at the beginning of the year. The expectation was to get to the playoffs. Foles getting hurt or not, the team has not played in other facets (Defense, o-line, etc.) in a way that represents a playoff contender. The tweet wasn't even newsworthy. Ray Charles saw this inevitability. Big news would have been anyone coming forward to announce that Doug is safe as long as the Jags remain in Duval.

If we hire a younger, offensive-minded coach who would be greatly helped by having an experienced defensive coordinator running that side of things, sure, in that capacity I'd love to have him on board. As a head coach? Nah. He's Marvin Lewis-tier. A good coach who'll string together some competent teams and be well-liked by his players, but not someone who's going to take an average team farther than it would carry itself on talent alone.

I think you’re right. Rivera seems like a quality person and is definitely a good DC. That what I observe about many coaches. Their true strength is as coordinators.

I don't know that I'd put 2017 squarely on TC's shoulders. He's pretty old, and that might cause him to fall and break a hip.

I don't believe anyone (including Khan) knows what his responsibilities are. He's part GM, part VP, and part HC I guess.

I also don't see how Coughlin is excluded from the dumpster fire that has been the last 2 years. Keeping him now is as bad as keeping Wash/Marrone 3 years ago.

Isnt Coughlin's job to run the football side of the house? Lamping runs the business and Coughlin runs the football. Shad seems like a smart enough man to know what he is an expert at and what he isnt. And if he isn't, he goes out and hires people who presumably are. That's typically what good leaders / business men / executives do.

Coughlin is just as responsible for our current situation as anyone. Won't be surprised in the slightest to see Khan let him go.

His responsibilities are not some mystery.  They were laid out at multiple pressers and are similar to several other "football czar" types around the league. It's not unusual at all. 

What is unusual is that he seems to be meddling and micromanaging beyond the scope of his responsibilities. 

Regardless - I would not keep him around. He seems to be too embroiled in any number of disputes that may be adversely affecting the typical chain of command and ultimately the product on the field. 

Marrone was ultimately his call to promote or replace and now it would seem the two are at odds to some degree. 
I'm over the Coughlin thing, personally. Someone would have to convince me he's not part of the problem and I'm inclined to believe he is.

I see no logical connection. If Coughlin wanted Foles to still be in there, he could just fire Marrone now and name Foles the starter going forward.

If anything, it shows Marrone is paying for his decision to bench Minshew and losing a shot at the playoffs.

Coughlin couldn't fire Marrone now without Shad signing off on it , especially when Coughlin is likely to be let go too.

Sure Coughlin has responsibilities, my manager has responsibility over me, t doesn't mean I get micro managed. The truth is no one knows how much leeway he gives HC or GM.

I make my own decisions and then get held accountable by my manager for those decisions.

I wouldn’t hate that. TC is too good and has been to important to this franchise to simply “retire” him. OTH, some have made the valid point that you won’t get the best candidate to come here if they have a boss over them. This seems a good solution.

Yeah. I worded it the way I did because we don't actually know for sure to what degree he is or is not "meddling" with others' responsibilities. 

There sure is a hell of a lot of smoke if there's no fire there though.  Add in his history of trying to wear every hat in the building, and that smoke gets even thicker.
